But the main reason behind today being a good day is the Liach signing. Actually makes me think that there are more moves to come (other than Alzner)

Well, do you think they are going to just let Semin walk this offseason? Plus with Liach off the market, you're loooking at ANOTHER guy off the FA market. Opens up the trading market a little bit and raises Semin's Value....Just Sayin'

You mean next offseason (re: letting him walk)? I think there has to be some recognition by the Caps that...

(1) With Carlson and MoJo getting new contracts next season, that they can't keep Backstrom, Ovi, and Semin going into 2012-2013. Especially if you are looking to improve the defense, etc. Mike Green will need a new contract or a replacement then as well.

(2) Up the middle (2nd line center) is our weakest spot. MoJo may grow into it, but if they can get someone stronger, he's a great 3rd line center now, as opposed to a subpar or mediocre second line guy.

(2) I don't think there is any doubt among the fans, management, or coaches about which guy needs to go. There is a reason two of them are signed for a decade and the other has two one-year contracts.

So why not do it now and find someone for that role? Semin has good value now and a reasonable contract for his talent. He'd be the most talented scorer on half the teams in the league and a fan draw.
