If you want a lazy ass couch potato dog, rescue a retired greyhound. It seems counterintuitive, but they are they lasziest ass lap dogs on the planet! LOL.

They're known to sleep for 18 hours a day. lol

Certain breeds need more attention and owner time than others. Husky's are a working dog and have more energy than you and I both. The problem with a lot of dog owners is they don't do the necessary research when getting certain breeds.

Couldn't of said it better myself. Rep.

I took some canine science classes back in the 80's (had to quit because tuition got too damn expensive). Certain breeds need to have a good run daily, if not multiple times a day. They'll adjust to your daily schedule but still need their exercise.

Protective dogs are good, overly protective dogs are not. I hope no one in my family ever has an Akita again.

Yeah, Akita's are very aggressive dogs. Parents who didn't research Dalmatians after taking their kids to see 101 dalmatians, and got one as the family pet, found out they aren't the best family dog either, lol.

If I get a dog I want a Shiba Inu. Oh my word are they beautiful. Like furry foxes. That said, I'll probably adopt...so whichever that ends up being.

This bastard was nice to me in my brothers living room but would nip at my feet when I went anywhere else in the house. Then one new years he (the dog, not my brother) just looked up at me and bit my arm hard enough to draw blood. He also bit my mother on her forehead and a cousin twice. Every time my hard headed brother found a way to blame it on us. However when he had a kid on the way, he suddenly did not like the idea of having the dog around. (the dog was really old and died before the kid was born saving my brother from making a tough decision)

Shame everyone wouldn't. All of my dogs have been adopted from shelters, or given to me by someone who couldn't (or wouldn't) take care of them anymore. I've owned dogs all my life, ever since I was a little kid we always had a dog.

I couldn't justify not adopting. Just couldn't. "Oh I'm going to spend thousands on getting a high pedigree dog just to have as a pet!" If you're showing them or trialing them, sure...as a pet? No. I couldn't do it.

I have always adopted too, but I am not really too picky about what kind I want. I understand people not adopting if they want a specific breed. The shelter I went to had a ton of animals and it was much nicer than some pet stores I went to.

Shiba Inu is often called a Mini Akita!

At some point I'll adopt, but I don't think I could go with a small dog. Unless it's a Jack Russell which is a small dog that thinks it's a big dog.

I'm really a retriever gal. Love the sporting dogs. Can't do the yippers.

haha, my Sparky suffers from SDS (Small Dog Syndrome) even though he's technically not that small.

Cracks me up. I wake up this morning, and there he is, in between me and my hubby sound asleep, on his back, all 4 paws sticking straight up in the air. I read an article that if your dog sleeps like that, it means he is comfortable in his surroundings and knows he's loved.

I adopt and am pretty fond of pitbulls. Luckily the average idiot that adopts them and keeps them for 6 months makes them plentiful in the shelters. Even the most demolished and abused of the bunch can make a full comeback too and show total love. Check this story out:

The girl who rehabbed Bubba is the girl who I adopted Rosie from. She is local here and does a tremendous job. If you want to see more hilarious photos, check out "justice for bubba" on facebook. There are some funny ass pics and it is a GREAT story.

She deserves a medal for saving that dog. He looks great compared to the first pic. I didn't adopt my 3 kittens but I did save them from having to go to an animal shelter.

She is great!

I should give her a quick plug here:

www.furkidrescue.org

If you look on the "Happy Trails" gallery you will see my little Rose hanging with Luke as well. She works so hard and I am sure it is expensive as hell.

This is my dog back home, Oreo. She's pretty awesome, and when I come home for a week after being away for 6-8 months, she lets me know she missed me. :)

Cool thread. Here's my 2 cents. My grandmother had a Doberman named Misty. This dog was fat as Hell...and had one ear up and one ear down. I don't know if they still do this...but..they used to clip thier tails and tape their ears so they stood up. Well... One of Misty's ears didn't take. She was a gentle, loveable creature. She passed away around around 1979 or '80...it was my first experience in losing something that I loved. I will never forget that dog.
