I don't really have a strong opinion on last night's halftime show.... Obviously Madonna is/was a star and I wish I aged that well (surgery or not), but it's funny to see so many people complain about the performance. Here's a question -- Who would you like to see do a Super Bowl halftime show? The act would have to be mainstream and it would probably have to be a band that hasn't already performed. That eliminates Prince (awesome show), Springsteen (better in his normal concerts), the Stones (always good), The Who (they were too old), U2 (awesome), and a bunch of other crappy shows (the Black-Eyed Peas come to mind). So who do you want to see?

My vote would be the Foo Fighters -- They would appeal to a football audience. Any others?

The bands I like (Seether, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin) would never be invited to play at the Super Bowl.

That's my point --- Given that the Super Bowl will only choose a well known, mainstream act.... Who's left?

Metallica would be pretty cool..... I saw them play a couple of decades ago and they're show was awesome. All that napster whining and other events have made them less appealing, but they'd probably kick ass.

I think Neil Young could probably put out a good show... Might be even better if they teamed him with Pearl Jam - Though that concept is now 20 years old.

AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, The Killers...

All mainstream bands that could put on a better show than any artist they might choose at this point.

THis is a good question and I gave it some thought...of the bands mentioned AC/DC would be good, KISS would be good...metallica is a shell of the band that put out 'Master of Puppets' and totally blows now so I would say no to them. Neil is great but he does his own thing and his shows are no frills and off the cuff. I'd suggest...

1). Bowie. Great showman. Still got it. Great songs that I think are still relevant. COuld even bring out Iggy Pop for 'Lust for Life'

2). Iron Maiden. One of my favorite bands growing up that still puts on a kick ass show. Classic tunes. Big stage show.

What I'd like to see that would never happen...

1). Queens of the Stone Age w Dave Grohl back on drums.

2). A re-united Fugazi (the most anti-commercial band ever doing SB halftime)

I was just talking about this at work, and my idea was Metallica. They are definitely mainstream, and have a deep enough catalog as to not worry anyone as far as the PC crowd go. And I don't care how much their new shit has fallen off, they still put on a great live show and have plenty of iconic songs to do a short 3 or 4 song medley.

I didn't think of the Chili Peppers, that's not a bad idea either.

I just want to see some rock back in the halftime show instead of a bunch of pop or hip hop bullshit. Tom Petty was decent. Springsteen was good. But I believe it's ok to bring the rock groups from the 90's into the picture.

Metallica or Red Hot Chili Peppers would probably be the best bet for broader appeal. I could see both of those working out.

AC/DC and Kiss maybe on a lighter scale of broad appeal, as I think those are more hard-core fanbase than the other two mentioned above.

Maybe they can use some digital magic and bring back Michael from the dead and have him do a show from "The Beyond".

That might be true. I just think of him as one of the few classic rock guys left in good enough shape who has the clout and the universal appeal to play the SB. It'd have to be with Crazy Horse, and their more energetic stuff.

That could apply to Kiss, but not sure about AC/DC. they have one of the biggest selling albums of alltime, and their album was huge. their style seems to fit a SB halftime show too.

i think they're the most logical choice mentioned

Kramer is clearly upset that nobody mentioned REO Speedwagon.

I think the NFL would have to convince Flea that he needs to wear more than a sock if they were going to get the NFL gig.
