what irks me the most: gas prices go up immediately when unrest starts overseas, then oil prices go up, and gas prices go up even more...then the unrest subsides and oil prices start going back down, yet gas prices don't immediately start going down with them.

I haven't even checked gas prices the last 2 weeks as I work a mile from my home, haven't filled up in over 2 weeks :)

The asshole 76 station next to my office is $4.39 for REGULAR as of right now. But that place is always more expensive then every where else in San Francisco. I think the average in this city is like $3.89 or $3.99, something like that.

My bike only takes two gallons at a time and I don't have to fill up often so it usually costs me less than $7 every ten days or so.

$1.20/liter = about $4.80 per gallon, for the cheap stuff.
right over the border is about $0.90/liter = $3.60 per gallon
- why yes, we are a major exporter of oil, why did you ask?

the thing that pisses me off is that the upcharge between regular unleaded and supreme (which I need to put in my car) is about $0.30 per liter ($1.20 per gallon) up here, and only about $0.05 / liter ($0.20 per gallon) in the states.

If every person in the US would park their vehicles for thee or four days that would change considering the 11.3 bill gallons of oil we consume a day the price would drop. Problem? they won't, it's easier to bitch about it than act.

I drive my car as little as possible, when my car got inspected my mechanic said "shit, you only drove 4100 miles this year" I said "yep, fuck um I only take my car out when I need to.

Even when I go to Ohio I ride with a person that is going there anyway.

Try mass transit.

What is really ridiculous is they are spiking prices on oil that has already been ripped from the Earth, refined and shipped to the station.

Meanwhile, the oil that they are "worried" about, and speculating on that is still under the sand in Libya won't really be on the market until around September (six months).

Anyone see the disconnect, there?

The thing that is funny to me is that Libya doesn't even sell to non-communist countries.

So what's happening there has zero effect on us. I can't wait for the WikiLeaks attack on the Oil companies. Make no mistake, you are paying more so some Wall Street Douchebag or Houston Asshole can have a marble bathtub in their yacht.

Absolutely...any excuse to arbitrarily and artifically increase prices/profits. It's a racket and should not be so profit driven given that it's a key part of the national infrastructure with no real competition (read monopoly).

The marketers even warned months ago that prices would be climbing into the 3.00-4.00 range months before any middle east strife started.

I own 3 vehicles and may end up trading 2 of them for a hybrid or something more fuel efficient. 07 Camry 4cyl is great on gas, my other 2 (99 4runner v6 & 2001 F-250 SD) are insane at the pumps.

Yeah, and no single country produces so much oil that even a complete stop in production/supply from one country should change the price that much. In the U.S., Libya is less than 1% of our oil imports. We get 42x as much oil from Canada!

I think my next car might be an electric one if the price comes down just a little. C'mon rich people - pay off the R&D so the masses can buy in!
