Why THE FUCK have 2 Strasburg starts been blacked out here. Once he was playing the white sox and now the reds. The game is supposed to be on ESPN and instead I get ESPN news blackout coverage. Can anyone see the game. Is it just my coverage.

yeah, i'm getting ESPN News. weird. personally i don't get why ESPN is suddenly showing two 'no name teams' considering their usual Yankees/Boston/AL only. i guess the burgh is right between markets, but it's national, so that's odd. have comcast?

Yeah I have comcast. I know that there are not a lot of Nats fans here but I think it is a good bet that other baseball fans here would like to watch this kid pitch. Its not like the Pirates and Nats are hated rivals and the kid has certainly lived up to the hype.

I don't know if all this helps or not, but here ya go:

Local broadcast and cable stations which contract with a team to show their games in the local market have priority to televise those games over national broadcasters (assuming that the national broadcaster does not have exclusive rights to the game, as discussed below). If ESPN or MLB Network telecasts a game, and the game was scheduled to be telecast by the local rights holder, the game will be blacked out on ESPN or MLB Network in that market (usually replaced by ESPNews if the game is blacked out on ESPN, alternate feed of MLB Network if the game is blacked out in the local market). Similar blackouts occur on other networks which telecast nationally, such as WGN, although this would be considered a local broadcast in Chicago respectively since the network only cover its local team (the game would be blacked out in the opponent's market only). (The same restriction was in place when TBS televised the Atlanta Braves, which was a local broadcast in Atlanta.)

Right IPW,

I get that and it kind of made sense for the white sox game, although they were showing the cubs game, but in Pittsburgh we don't get coverage on any level of the reds.

I have softball anyway but I was just looking forward to catching the first 4 innings or so.

Well yeah. I mentioned that in the IP. I wouldn't be so pissed if I was missing Livan Hernandez.

My bad, should have quoted pix and ritari when they asked why ESPN was showing this game. Saw you mentioned Strasburg.

no disprespect to the nats or strass (although i'm getting annoyed already with people crying that he wasn't on the all-star team and he was already up for an ESPY after 5 starts), it's more annoying that ESPN is so pathetic. they aren't fair with who they show...personally, i'd like to see a team that isn't the yankees or red sox or some other ridiculously high end payroll out there. and i know the reds are better this year, but they NEVER sniff coverage on ESPN.

yeah, the phils and cards do, but other than that in the NL? not too many get games. and the phillies are one of those big market/big money teams anyway, right up there with the big dogs. they're on a downwards slide and still getting a ton of coverage. i just wish there was another option to get sports coverage.

Cubs (which is a shame because they haven't been good for a few years). I'd hope the Padres would get some games, because NOBODY had them doing this well.

i really like the padres. and i hate the cubs. i know so many people that are fans, and worse than frontrunning a team, they're fans because it's 'cool'. they enjoy the attention too much. my one friend is a cubs and yankees fan. ew. just...ew.
