I would never even think about voting for someone who tried to tell a sports team what their name could be.

Yep. They should be worrrying about fixing the economy and getting us the hell out of Afghanistan instead of if a sports team's name is offensive or not. They already fucked up baseball by killing the Reserve Clause and giving us multimillionaire ball players and free agency.

I want them to stay out of governing as well. Highest per capita concentration of douchebags on earth when they are in session, irrespective of party affiliation.

I'm Native American (card carrying bloodline) and I have never taken offense to the term "Redskin". As a matter of fact, with the removal of terms like "Redskin" in sports from the high school level all the way to Washington, it seems unless it is related to a casino the Native American essence is slowly going away...

If congress wants to do something worth while, they should look into the removal of Andrew Jackson from all of our currency. Jackson is responsible for the deaths of thousands and thousands of Native Americans. I find it far more offensive that Andrew Jackson remains on a twenty dollar bill and mocks every Native American on a daily basis. Sadly, Not that many people know or recognize this about Jackson...

Not trying to be callous, but if we start reviewing the résumé of all historical figures, we'll find something that will offend almost every group.

Where does it stop? It's a very slippery slope. Oops, I said slope.

but politicians are there to satisfy their constituents right? so if there are enough constituents 'guiding' them on some issue..................then they take action. they don't do it because they alone feel like it?

don't disagree with this at all, but really.......thats the nature of our political system. we vote in politicians who we THINK will take care of our individual agenda's? in order for them to take care of their constituents, they have to spend Federal money, whether it runs up the debt or not. you didn't mention deficit so that is just my issue with the Politicos.

One problem (among the many) is the vast majority are "career" politicians. They are more concerned about the next election, lining their pockets, or creating a résumé that will allow them to run for president one day. Very, very few are looking out for the best interests of their constituents or the nation. The ones that are typically don't make it or become disillusioned.

Five minutes after the 2012 election was over these guys all started jockeying for the 2014 midterms. Hell, in the House you are basically campaigning all the time.

I wish everyone would vote against the incumbents the next three cycles to completely flush the system. Time for a purge.

Wasn't that the point of the Tea Party protestors? I didn't pay much attention to them so I don't know.

Vote anarchy.

Been saying it for years.

Government is a necissary evil. And just like everything that is evil, it is easier to control in smaller forms. It's too big and needs to be downsized. But anarchy would never work.

They stand for smaller government, flat tax, term limits, and things of that nature. They follow the constitution and what the founders believed in. And they loathe the affordable health act.

Ah, the beautiful nature of a republic that pretends it's a democracy.

As you mentioned, the House campaigns constantly, as during campaigns they claim they will vote in a completely democratic manner, basically saying "whatever the greater number of constituents want, I shall support," but with America being a republic, an elected congressman's voting habits come from a beefy stew of lobbyist money, what they personally feel (different than campaign promises), and what will keep them from getting blacklisted by their party. Joe Lieberman in 2006 is a good example of this (and your "career politician" comment)... Dems got mad at him and stopped supporting him because he didn't vote the way he was supposed to, so Dems made him endure a primary, which he lost, and he had to run as an Independent in order to keep his seat, which he won.

Another example is how the media constantly says 90% of Americans support stricter gun laws, but if congress votes against "party lines," (which are not democratic) they will get primary-ed. Tea Party nutjobs have made this even worse, because they don't even understand what they're talking about or what they actually support, except for talking points they hear from politicians and Fox News.

good point.

so that brings us to another issue albeit small one.......the majority of citizens don't want to be politicians.
