Just happened to flip through ESPN, apparently Rome does have a history of it judging from what Woody said

I think you're right, Eddie, and Stern is a smart guy, but if he wanted to send a zinger back at Rome, his choice of phrases was very poor, in my opinion.

Rome no doubt was looking for a reaction with the way he asked his question. I mean, he's essentially questioning the integrity of the NBA commissioner. Most people know Rome can be an asshat, I guess what's disappointing is Stern could have gone several ways with his response and decided to take the low road.

Agreed. Stern should have said "absolutely not", and moved on. Instead he acted like a childish buffoon.

Don't know what the outrage is all about either. Sure, Stern should have taken the high road, but Rome got EXACTLY what he wanted. If anything, Stern did Rome a favor. Don't know what we all expected, afterall, he is the commissioner of a league with refs that admittedly cheat.....

As for the "are you still beating your wife" question, it's a classic "Begs the Question" response when someone feels they are being asked a question that cannot yield a positive result. I don't think Stern meant it anything other than that.

Unfortunately, with all the money put into professional sports nowadays, we have to be skeptical of everything (game rigging, series rigging, lottery rigging, etc.). These people are going from being strictly professional athletes to entertainers. Pretty soon, I wouldn't be surprised if sports gets closer and closer to the WWF(E).

It was a retarded question. If the lottery was rigged wouldn't LeBron have gone to the Knicks instead of Cleavland?

Rome is an untalented idiot, and Stern was arrogant enough to take the bait. As the more accomplished and respected professional Stern should have known better regardless of what questions that asshat had.

as hard as the subject matter was, it was a softball question really ... classic rome ... trying to get an angry soundbite from Stern (that he can play over and over again) directed at those who believe the nba to be rigged

but instead Stern directed the angry soundbite right at Rome

Just throwing it out there for discussion - If Steve Nash became GM of a new Vancouver NBA team, would it change your opinion?

nope ... not for me ... that league screwed this city and made us look like fan support was the reason they left town

good riddance and good luck to Steve Nash as cdn national team GM :thumb:

would take the needle from negative sentiment slightly towards apathy.

I can't figure out why the NBA is as popular as it is. Every year we know who's going to win the title if they stay healthy. They rarely have any upsets. There are so many teams that would have to pay me to watch their team play it's pathetic.

Too many fouls, too much stop and go, teams rest their starters when they get a lead allowing the other team to catch up which means only the last few minutes are interesting and even then it's non stop time outs. Bunch of tall wimps. And is there anything less interesting in sports than free throws in the first half?
