OT: Best Movie Soundtrack

I didn't read through all four pages of the zombie thread, but Lost Highway had a pretty slamming soundtrack. It was a good mix of original score, original songs recorded just for the movie, and previously recorded songs.

My favorite Pearl Jam song is off of this album. Which is funny because another favorite band of mine (RHCP), my favorite song is off of the Coneheads soundtrack (Soul to Squeeze).

The Departed Soundrack CD...a few clunkers, but a lot of winners, too. Comfortably Numb with Van Morrison is transcendent. The Dropkick Murphys make me want to march off to war.

Although I love a lot of the movies listed, I have a preference for "original" soundtracks. Seems unfair that a movie can be considered to have a great soundtrack if all they did was poach Top 40 hits from all eras.

That's what I loved about Garden State's soundtrack - Braff took a bunch of music only the most hardcore of indie folks would know and turned it into the perfect compilation. I know that's still not what you were getting at (you're aiming more for the SNF soundtrack) but it's as close as you'll ever get to "original" in today's world.

I too prefer soundtracks made up of songs recorded for the movie or at least contemporary songs. I hate what I often feel is forced nostalgia with movie soundtracks and music.

Watching American Hustle last year was insufferable, and not just because of the god-awful Oscar-bait that was the screenplay. That soundtrack. Ugh.

I mean, it wasn't god-awful. It was like most films these days - unnecessarily long for no apparent reason other than the sake of being long. Why people can't make a good movie in 1:45 these days is beyond me.

That's the crap that kept me from seeing Wolf of Wall Street for the longest time. I just don't have 3 hours to spend on some self-righteous douche who's trying to cash-in on his story. I love Scorsese though, so of course I caved and watched it.

We definitely have different taste. I enjoyed American Hustle and came out of there with a smile on my face because of the sound track.
