Malmo is in southern Sweden, looks pretty balmy even in January according to the wiki page.

/Congrats on both the trip/tickets and the job puck.

If you decide to go clubbing down in Copenhagen, don't take the 4:15 am train back - 3:00 am train is just fine, but that 4:15 train is rather sketchy.

I've been seriously considering this for a while. I bet you have a fantastic time. I've always wanted to go to Sweden.

If I end up going I'll see you there (unlikely at this point)!!!

It's always bugged me to see half-empty arenas almost every time the WJHC has been in Europe.
Decided to go a few years ago, but because they did Sweden and Czech republic back to back, and somehow Switzerland backed out of hosting a tourney, it had been in North America for 4 years running, and we didn't want to go to Ufa (Russian mining town in the dead of winter)

Don't think that (empty buildings) will be the case in Sweden, but it will be awfully cool to such great hockey in a small rink.
Group A (Can + USA) play most of their games in a 5,800 seat arena. The SF and finals switch over to a 13,000 seater

and vodka.

Malmö is a nice, clean city, but a little bit boring compared to it's Danish neighbo(u)r. I wouldn't recommend trying to get to Copenhagen all that often, because you'll pay out the ass to get there. If you drive you'll pay about 60CAD to get across the bridge (I think you pay that both ways, but not 100% sure). That's just the toll. If you take a taxi, you'll pay that, plus the taxi fare, which is not cheap in Sweden. Even the train, which is a nice way to go, will run you almost 20CAD each way.

I highly recommend making the trip at least once though, because Copenhagen is an amazing city and the trip across the bridge/tunnel combination (Öresund Bridge if you want to look it up) is pretty cool.

Getting around in Malmö is super easy. Very walkable city if the weather cooperates, otherwise, the public transit is very effective and easy to navigate. Be forewarned though, as with anything else in Sweden, it won't come cheap. If you're not staying real close to the arena or you expect to be out and about a lot, go for the multi-day pass.

If you've got a day or two off where you want to explore a bit more, I can highly recommend a big loop starting in Malmö, through Copenhagen, up the Danish coast to Helsingor where you can see Hamlet's castle, across the water (back into Sweden) to Helsingborg, which is an amazingly pircturesque town, then back down the Swedish coast to Malmö.

And the weather shouldn't be much colder than what you're used to in Vancouver. Be prepared though because it will be dark. Very dark. Sun will rise well after 8AM and will be set before 4.

Life is all good for the puckster. Sounds like a fun trip.

I have nothing to add about the trip as my most relevant experience is 3 days in the Hague "working".

If Sweden is anywhere near as beautiful and... interesting as the Netherlands. Then you will have a damn good time.

Awesome! Skåne is pretty chilly in the winter time with high humidity (but not as cold as the north.. should be around 0 Celsius).. I've only been in Malmö in the summer time but as Sabresfan said it's a very walkable downtown and it's pretty nice. Sweden should be visited during the summer time or best experience though :)

What dates are you there? Maybe I can take a few days off and go down to Malmö from Stockholm

Um, there appear to be a few there that aren't naturally Swedish, er, blonde.

And...British girls don't need anyone's help to make them look ugly.

Good luck with that. I looked into buying an apartment when I lived there. Damn things don't come cheap.

What part of Stockholm you looking at?
