It's just a link. I can understand how seeing outside opinion can hurt ones ego though.

You know, it's just not worth it anymore (not that I was looking for it anyway), it's a freakin' message board for god sakes.

Ghost, other NHL mods, pull my moderator status on this board effective immediately.

In my experience as a resident and community adviser, you have to be strict even with folks who almost never give you trouble. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. This year, I've been relaxed on proper lounge use rules and it's resulted in a pretty filthy space and a couple broken lights. On noise, drug, alcohol, and other behavioral issues, I've been very strict, and it's resulted in conduct incidents only occasionally happening. They know what they can and cannot do with me on duty, and they know I'll be a fun guy if they behave themselves, and they behave as a result.

I read the thread, and the argument in question was petty and unnecessary and broke up the actual hockey talk of the thread. Those aren't the sorts of things that we can have on this forum without sacrificing its integrity, in my opinion.

Besides, the mods have done an excellent job so far, and I think we can all agree on that. I think it's safe to trust their judgment on these sorts of issues.

We are not undergrads in a dorm, however.

It;s fine, whatever, I just wanted to make everyone aware of the SF discussion that had to be hosted on another board.

My main problem was banning a new poster who was just rolling with the punches. And the fact that there wasn't really a warning given in the thread while mods were posting also makes the whole ordeal look pretty dumb. I really could care less... I still like the posters here and enjoy the hockey talk. Apparently you can't fuck around without someone getting butthurt about it... I'm sure people were calling for me to be banned as well because I took part in the bar fight of the Game 2 GNT... But so be it... I guess the line has been drawn.

Why quit?!?!

All I am asking for is some sort of:

1. listening to the people
2. set of definable guidelines
3. consistency

Nobody wants you gone. You are doing a fine job. Just tell the rules and the various punishments for breaking them.

The concept applies to any community setting. People don't change that much after college. The same tendencies propagate throughout life.

So we should lock threads and suspend/ban people at the first sign of an escalation in debate? That sounds reasonable......in Riyadh.....

People def change after college, lol. Dash, there is no reason to drop mod status. Yes it is only a message board. All 46 is saying is where is the line. How far can you go? It just seems like there wasn't any warning given to a veteran poster or a noob who had no idea what was right and wrong.

We all like it here, or else we wouldn't stay.

Jeff, FWIW, I did give a warning in the thread. It was probably lost in the heat of the flame-war shit-storm that was going on for pages and pages of the thread. Mods were in the thread, and we let most of it go for a long time, but when the shit kept on going with no end in sight (even after the game was over), that is when the decision to ban was made.

Did anyone (honestly, not including other mods) PM you to complain about it? Judging by the people in that thread, I just cant see that.

that is not the nature of this board at all...read above. you are over-exaggerating the situation.

Well then I def missed it. But if it kept on going after the warning was posted, then those who kept carrying on should have been PMed to stop, then they should have gotten banned. Just makes sense. And if that did take place, then I will stop right there and never bring this up again. If someone is personally warned and keeps it up, then that is def grounds for being banned. It is very easy to lose a post in a GNT, especially a playoff game between the Bruins and Flyers. Those pages were racking up like crazy.

So you missed the comment about beantown leaving the thread because of it and that it was becoming swamplike?

Yes, quite a few. If they want to identify themselves, that is their choice.

It had already escalated, and it had gone on for some time. There were more signs of escalation in that thread than there are in this place:

Rule #1: don't be an asshole.
Rule #2: if you continue to be an asshole, so long.

I've only seen 2 bannings (other than the occasional spammer).
- the first came here from disney to continue long-dead arguments
- and the second was a huge asshole in an otherwise hockey related thread, and wouldn't give it up.

it seems pretty fucking simple.

Did he PM you guys and ask you to do something?

More likely, you heard the evil word "swamplike" and overreacted. It has become predictable. If anyone makes any reference to the ESPN boards, you all flip out. Notice in the Nebraska thread that people refer to this board as Disney like. How does that hit home?

I'm gonna leave it on this note. I know where the line is now, and what not to say or do here. I just feel that banning without a personal warning is wrong. Especially a new poster, perhaps a veteran poster here should know better... But I am all done with this. If I feel the need to be "swamp like", I will go start a brawl with a cornhusker.
