Then I'd say you guys are in good shape to finish with a top class.

Have to imagine though, unlike when Hoke was doing this, Harbaugh won't just waste the talent.

What's the scoop on your QB situation next year?

Your guess is as good as mine. I have to imagine it will work out well because I've never seen this much talent at the QB position before. We have:

Shane Morris - 5 star (redshirt this year)
Wilton Speight - 3 star (backup this year)
Alex Malzone - 4 star
Zach Gentry - 4 star
Brandon Peters - 4 star
John O'Korn - 3 star (Transfer for Houston)

That's 6 scholarship QB's. Rumor is they are trying Gentry at TE because of his size (6'6'' 230lbs). But I have no idea who's going to actually get the start. We haven't heard much of anyone outside of Rudock this year. O'Korn was playing on the scout team all season because he wasn't eligible for a year. He has the most starting experience. It wouldn't shock me to see Morris win the job after everyone wrote him off but it could honestly be any of the listed guys above. It also wouldn't shock me to lose a couple of those guys once it is all figured out.

For your sake, I hope Morris isn't starting. From everything I've seen of that kid, he just doesn't have it. Sounds like that Peters kid could compete right away. I'd have to guess it's between Peters, Speight and O'Korn. God help you if it's Morris. That is not a good sign of the state of your QB talent.

I would have thought that if I hadn't seen what Harbaugh did with Rudock this year -- IE turned him into statistically one of the best passers in Michigan history.

Rudock doesn't have the physical tools Morris has (supposedly), but he has it between the ears, which Morris decidedly does not. The fact that he couldn't even beat out Speight (who looked horrible when he actually played) doesn't bode well for a guy that was entering his junior season.

See, I don't know if he couldn't beat out Speight or if Harbaugh would rather have played a worse player to maintain Morris' redshirt so that Morris could start for two years. Because it would have been a shame to lose an entire year just to have a QB finish out the Minnesota game.

Well, like I said, if you guys are starting Morris it isn't looking too good. He's just a flat out bad QB. I think the best case scenario is that Peters come in ready to play and can start for the next 3-4 years.

I remember when he was a recruit and I was baffled by his star ranking. Fact is, he was a spring/summer camp superstar and that's what shot him clear up. He does great in drills when the pads and the pressure are off, but in game situations he has always looked overwhelmed. I think he should transfer to the MAC or FCS, but I think his ego is too big for that.

Yes, it was his camp performances. Part of it was that he was injured for his Senior year as well so most of it was off his Junior performance. His ranking was based off his capabilities and not off of what he actually did in games.

No, over signing indicates that you do not have enough scholarship positions for the amount of kids you signed. Michigan has 27 spots to fill and plans to fill them.

No it doesn't, teams have always had room otherwise the NCAA would have stepped in and they'd be under sanctions.

The big complaint with oversigning had nothing to do with the scholarships available, it had to do with WHY the scholarships were available.

And I told Michigan fans as soon as Harbaugh was hired you'd sign way more than 25 in his first class, as it was normal, and you all said -NO WAY!

Funny how Michigan only lost a handful of players in the "who are you losing" thread, now they are losing 27 players. Are we counting how many players will be "asked" by Harbaugh to take a medical scholy?

Having room and making room are two very different things. Signing a big class does not equal over signing. Signing a big class and then making spots open for various reasons is over signing. Having 27 spots to fill and signing 27 kids is not over signing, it's signing a big class.

Alabama "makes room" because kids transfers when they get beat out and aren't going to get playing time a ton. Every time a player transferred, everyone complained about Alabama oversigning and how bad it was for the players.

Nevermind that in many cases, especially QB, it actually hurt us on the depth. You see Toledo's big time QB this year? That was an Alabama transfer who lost out the job to AJ McCarron. He could have likely been the Alabama QB the past 2 years, but he transferred when he lost the starting job. Meanwhile, Blake Sims was a 5 year senior that nobody ever expected to play and he got the job last year and we had to bring in a transfer for this year. Yet, how does that happen when everyone claims it's Alabama forcing the players out?

So fuck your excuses. They didn't mean shit when it was on the other foot. Michigan is doing the exact same things now that you all bitched about.

No, what Michigan is doing is completely different. You see, what Alabama is doing is having Saban do it, while Michigan is having Harbaugh do it. If you got yourself a Harbaugh then it would be OK.

First of all, I don't believe I've called out Alabama at any point in this thread. Secondly, players leaving for legitimate reasons is absolutely fine. Kids transfer, quite, get kicked off for legal trouble and get career ending injuries all the time. But filling those spots is absolutely fine up to 28 signees (at least in the B10). I'm not sure I've ever "bitched" that a program filled an open spot because a player was legitimately off the team and opened a spot.

What people, including myself, have an issue with is when a team signs 28 kids to a class and only has 24 open spots so room has to be made.

You always say this but Harbaugh has yet to do anything like certain teams in the SEC. His first class didn't even crack 18 players.

Alabama hasn't signed more than 25 in like 4 or 5 years. I think most years we've been at like 24. So how could you bitch?
