Hate to hear of anyone so young losing their life.

Another reminder that nothing is guarenteed and none of us know how long we have to enjoy our lives.

RIP Oscar.

That's yet another thing that makes this so very sad. NOBODY, outside of St. Louis, didn't know Taveras. In another 8-9 months, that surely would have changed substantially. Man he had everything....his upside was ridiculous. You take a guy like Daryl Strawberry, who ALSO was given more talent than almost anyone in the game, and he basically pisses his talents away while attempting to snort the worlds surplus of cocaine. Still alive, still on drugs, never amounted to much in the MLB. Here's Taveras, a great kid, doing things the right way, truly wanting to be GREAT. Loses his life in an auto accident at the age of 22. Times like this, life really makes no sense to me whatsoever. What a tragic, tragic loss.

Strawberry had nearly 300 homers by age 30. Was an 8 time All-Star and has 4 WS rings. He also got to see atleast one of his sons graduate from college. While "life" did get in the way of his personal glory, the mans story has much more value than just some drug addict that isn't dead.

You're right, and almost immediately after I posted that I thought about it and realized Daryl actually DID accomplish quite a bit in the majors. I guess what bothers me about Daryl is that he was so incredibly talented, what he might have accomplished....what records he might have broken had he TRULY wanted to be great. If he ONLY had the mentality of a Albert Pujols or a Mariano Rivera. I also meant no disrespect, as I've always rooted for Strawberry...even when he attempted several 'comebacks' that never really panned out. Anyways, the point I was trying to make is, it always seems so crazy to me how the people that give every opportunity to lose their life seemingly never die, but time and time again a young ultra talented individual passes tragically just like Taveras. Perfect example that life makes no sense at all.

Very shocking to hear. We don't expect this to happen to young people in the spotlight. Seattle fans felt this recently with Greg Halman's tragic death.

I meant that I didn't know him personally. I did know who he was. He hit a HR against the Giants in the NLCS. He struggled this season, but the sky was the limit for this kid.

I was watching today's game at a restaurant and couldn't hear very well. I saw Ken Rosenthal talking in the dugout, and I said to myself, "What the heck is Ken Rosenthal talking about?" and then all of a sudden they flashed the graphic "Oscar Taveras 1992-2014", and instantly the emotions hit me.

I was shocked. Really, really sucks.

He was next up for an organization that keeps sprouting talent. Insane knowing he just hit that homer two weeks ago today.

Very sad. Seemed like a good kid and a great talent. I heard his 18 year old girlfriend died as well. Prayers for their families, RIP

Its hard to watch the World Series knowing that he would still be alive if the Cardinals were playing

I couldn't think about much else today. All day long, I kept thinking 'how will the Cards cope with this?'. His poor family....Even Matheny was obviously choked up when they asked about Oscar. He would have been a staple in the heart of the order for 10 yrs, I know that sounds incredibly selfish because by all indications, he was a great kid that had a close family. I just really cannot believe he's gone. So unfair....

Hard to feel sorry for the guy in that case; especially since he also took the life of a young girl and that is really sad.
