I know this goes against the grain of accepted truth in VAN, but close-up photo of Sedin hit shows it was clearly from behind. Good call.

rares posted the NHL rule for boarding last night and no where does it state that the hit has to be from behind - It basically is a check or shove that propels a defenseless player violently into the boards.
Was Wingels defenseless? He probably had a good idea that Sedin was there and you could argue had some time to prepare himself. Was he propelled violently into the boards? Probably a judgement call.
But again, it doesn't have to be a hit from behind.
