Orakpo has no plans to sign the franchise tag as of right now.A person informed of the negotiations has told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the two sides had not been in active contract discussions recently. There was a fundamental disagreement on Orakpo's value.Although Orakpo has lined up at outside linebacker in Jim Haslett's 3-4 defense, there's reason to believe he will follow Terrell Suggs' 2008 example and file a grievance seeking the $13.116 million defensive end designation.

NO actually he is being smart about it. this team has a long standing history of not valuing their own drafted players when it comes to contracts and resigning. Since the grievance is likely to go through based on Suggs already having done this, it gives him more leverage to get a long term deal done with the Skins. If I were him, I would have already had my paper work ready, and would have been waiting by my agents fax machine to sign the tender before they had a chance to change their minds.

I would do it as well if I were him but I wouldn't have guessed he'd be successful in being considered a DE. That'll be really annoying if he wins that though.

Suggs did it last year with the Ravens. So I dont see a reason they would deny Orakpo.

But was suggs more of a pass rusher. It always seemed orakpo dropped on coverage too much for all of our likings. Does that make a difference?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha...snort, grin, chuckle, knee slap, The demand for good DE's....high The demand for good LBers...high, The demand for hybrid LBer/DE who can't cover and only adequate as a DE in the 3-4.......not gonna get 2 firsts.

Orakpo is on record as saying this is a step in the right direction towards signing a long term contract with the Redskins. I'm not sure what hub bub you guys are talking about. The safest best is Orakpo is signed long term before the start of the 2014 season freeing up cap space.

Suggs NEVER dropped back into Coverage, and Rak did Alot...this will work in the Skins favor for sure!!!

I am glad they tagged him....I hope they can come together on a long term Deal, with Incentives that pay him accodignly if he hit certain Milestones!

He is also on record as saying this.....

Yeah, they’ve expressed myself being a priority being back,” he said. “Normally, the Redskins like to get rid of homegrown talent, or homegrown talent doesn’t develop the way they want to.

Its a very bad sign if this is how our own players see the team in terms of resigning.

Suggs was not an OLB in a 4-3 defense. RAK was. RAK has never been a DE and isn't used as one.

you guys will latch on to the most negative part of what someone says

the guy says he is encouraged and it is a step forward .

his agent is trying to get the best deal they can . no issue there

i have sat here for months listening to how the skins dont take care of their good players and they take a step as best they can and it gets twisted yet again

i said we would franchise Rak from the get go . i budgeted his cost into my free agent plans . the next big hurdle is riley who will test the market

i expect he will be in the fold too
