No two ways around this one, this is a steal for the Leafs. Nashville runs on a tight budget, and needs production out of its players - Lombardi not playing = no production. I'd imagine Nashville wanted to get rid of Lombardi, and Toronto countered and asked for Fransen to sweeten up the deal so they weren't just taking on extra salary.

Great post Esls.

Also, what do you think of the Burns trade??? I love BB but I'm afraid the Sharks gave up a lot (especially Coyle). My take is that if Burns signs long term its an even trade. If he doesn't, this is a lopsided trade way in favor of Minny. Good luck next year regardless.

Depends on what you hear. A lot of talk around the league is Weber has told Poile flat out he wants to win a Cup and doesn't think Nashville can do that, so talks have stalled.

Maybe Burke is not the idiot you presented. I have to be honest. I kinda like the guy. Speaks his mind and does not back down. Goes with what he believes and sticks with it.

The Leafs became a solid team at the end of the season last year. Playoff worthy probably. Cup winners..not yet but for sure a spoiler. Lot of young talent.

Just my take.

To me this deal screams clearing cap space for Nashville & I don't think it's all for Weber. Weber won't resign long term unless he believes the team can win. The Preds need offense. I don't know who they're going to end up with, but I don't think Bergfors is the answer.

I know, I am just being melodramatic. I took lessons from IPW (my hero).

That being said, Burkie's moves can bets be described as infuriating. He makes some real steals and genius moves, but also some horrible misjudgements.

All I know is when a team is acquiring a player making 3 million per & coming off a season in which he played 1 game because of concussion issues it tells me one thing.

Centers are at AN ALL TIME PREMIUM.

Congrats Leafs fans.
great pick up - even better if Lombardi provides anything at all.

Franson's going to be good player for a long time.
Lebda is... ummmm..... not.

Looking at all these deals, I can't help but wonder if Burke was really the one behind them, or was it his little helper monkey Dave Nonis (the guy I think really should be the gm)
