If a ref waves off this type of goal in the playoffs, there will be hell to pay.

I was surprised that was upheld after review.
Jim Fox ( LA color guy) always likes to defend the refs and their calls. He tried to say the stick hit Quick or a player was pushed into Quick.
calls like this are why I don't stay mad when calls go against my team. It evens out over time.

Side note
I think the coach's challenge should be reviewed in Toronto. How often is the ref that made the call going to say " my error, I didn't see that right."?
Also instead of a timeout it should be a two minute minor. Just like illegal stick. That way coaches won't call for it just for a timeout and a prayer.

36 points in his last 41 games by my count, 14 goals and 22 assists. And there's probably more upside since he's still not scoring on the PP, 20 of his goals are even strength.
Phil is very good at playing good for half the season.

This is the first time I can remember when the good half was the second half, though. In at least 4 years.

Justin Schultz led all defensemen in +/- and had an assist in just 12:44 TOI. Dash may be on to something here.

In 2013-14 he had 6 more points in the second half. (43 to 37). 2012-13 was the shortened season but he was also better in the second half of that one, with a sizzling 32 points in the last 24 games after putting up only 20 (and just 6 goals) in the first 24.

A better metric would be his career playoff stats, but there's not enough data :D

I think I said close to the same thing last night - Refs are graded by their performance during the regular season in order to get assigned to work in the playoffs. Of course, the NHL has a long history of not understanding the phrase 'conflict of interest'.

Never said my memory was great.

Wasn't the lockout year the one where he didn't score in his first 10 games or whatever? Explains that one.

Anyway, it's good for Phil that he's now putting up better point-per-game stats than Tyler Bozak.

You limit Schultz's minutes, you limit the damage he can do.

:D

Just for comparison purposes this was ruled to be a good goal (no goalie interference). I know you can argue that Broissot could have tried harder to get up to make the save, but pretty clear Lucic made significant contact with the goalie prior to Carter scoring the goal.
