I'm now wondering who...beat Gretzky?
That would be Mario.

Just looked it up...Toews beat...Ovechkin. In something titled "best sniper of all time". HE BEAT. ALEX. OVECHKIN.
Toronto just clearing contracts but Talyor Beck is an actual NHL player. The prospects all look pretty B-level to me. Grabner is a good add too. Never hurts to have more speed.
This is from a little over a year ago
Grabner was making $5M and has been on a steady decline since his sports hernia surgery (even before that I think). As long as he can stay healthy, he could be a good addition for the Leafs. Isles didn't retain any of his contract.
I feel like this is likely the best the Isles were going to do in a trade for Grabner. I didnt see them showcasing the guy all year in hopes he'd fetch a better return at the trade deadline. He just wasn't in their plans anymore.
Good luck, Gremlin.
Hey he looked good at one time. He was a dominant player in the WHL. For some reason his skating has gotten worse instead of better. Nobody could have seen that coming.

No, he really wasn't a dominant player in the WHL. I'm pretty sure when we had this discussion before I pointed out that almost all high level defensemen in the NHL (even those that end up playing a defensive role at that level) score more in junior than Reinhart did. 29 points in 59 games in your draft+1 year is not good. 21 points in 45 games in your draft+2 year is even worse. And when I watched the Oil Kings I didn't see him controlling play like you should expect a good future NHL defenseman to do at that level.
When I'm wrong about a player you can call me out on it. I don't mind admitting it. Hell, I may still turn out to have been wrong on Reinhart. But it's not looking that way right now. And I wouldn't say that no one saw it coming, I'm far from the only person who called this one.
He was a poor skater and he still is. He hasn't gotten worse he just hasn't progressed.
The lack of progression was, and is, a serious red flag. He just hasn't made any progress since his draft year. Hell, even Jared Cowen had a 48 points in 58 point campaign in the Dub after his draft. He got better.
Reinhart is looking like a poor man's Cowen at this point and there is no way that can be spun as a good thing.
. It's not just for Bollig anymore
lol - Good thing the Flames didn't need that 3rd round pick to get Hamilton this summer.
Verhaeghe can't drive any offence himself.Grabner will be paid 5M. His cap hit is 3M. The Vandeweigh kid might have some promise. He's led Niagara in points the past two seasons. Ho Sang is on the same team so they've obviously scouted him quite a bit. Finn was a 2nd round pick, but I guess he spent last year in the ECHL. This trade does two things for the Islanders.
1.It adds depth to Bridgeport.
2.It gives them 3M more in cap space. The Isles are now 8.5M below the cap. Supposedly they could have interest in Zidlicky.

I think Grabner will play more NHL games this season alone than the five of them combined will in their careers.

It was a good deal for both teams.Which is why this was a true salary dump. And I'm fine with that. They needed some room for guys that are going forward, not one's that are battling to find the magic again.
