The contract is fine. He's not 35 so it's not like they have to be stuck with it for the full 7 years. Considering all they gave up was 2 second round picks for Boychuk resigning him was a steal.

I think it was Friedman who also pointed out in one of his columns that Boychuk was a late bloomer who wasn't logging a ton of NHL games earlier in his career, so he could end up with a bit more in the tank still as he gets older.

I think the contract is definitely in line with what he would have gotten elsewhere if the Isles hadn't re-signed him too.

I expected him to get 6M per year because Leddy got 5.5. Boychuk was an UFA to be so it's not a surprise that he got more than Leddy. It's nice to see the Isles spending the necessary money to keep players.

Hasn't Jumbo Jim been better in the playoffs of late though? I realize that was the knock on him for several years, but he's been pretty good the last few years.

It's more about *how* the exit does/doesn't happen that would make me mad. If they play a good series, a close one, don't fly off the handle or blow a big series lead, I'm alright with it.
