Caps got a new GM it appears. Failing upwards must be nice.

More like GMBM is basically retiring. I imagine Chris Patrick has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting the past year or two. I’m just surprised this move was announced after most of the off-season stuff was done, and BM has been trotted out to do the media appearances and all.

Several tweet replies are saying this is old news and it likely is, I just don't remember it, but that's more a sign of old age where I'm concerned lol

Hopefully he will survive a little better, as that was tough to watch last season

However, I would add, it would have probably been more difficult to move the Tavares contract

We got the first that became Dickenson out of the Karlsson trade to PIT. If he turns out to be a solid player, that chain of transactions may not look so bad in retrospect

I wonder why, and I'm just spitballing here, they didn't hook him up with a former player who can TEACH HIM HOW TO PLAY HOCKEY

Interesting as to why the Laine trade talk is kind of silent.

  • Also from Portzline’s piece, winger Patrik Laine has not yet been cleared from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance program. While Columbus can trade him while he’s in the program, GM Don Waddell previously indicated that teams want to speak to Laine before considering putting an offer in for his services. Those conversations can’t happen until he’s cleared. The 26-year-old was limited to just nine points in 18 games last season and has two years left on his contract with an $8.7MM cap hit along with a 10-team no-trade list.

Essentially, he has to be cleared before any team can talk to him.

Didn't even realize the Jackets still don't have a coach.

How you building a team that's supposed to get out of the basement without a coach two weeks into July?

I guess the goal all along for the Capitals purchasing CapFriendly was to be #1 at something?
