All this talk about how the NHL needs to protect its star players and based on what I have watched over the last week, I think the NHL needs to protect players from #97 on the Oilers.

I mean, McDavid had a couple of options at least:

a) Slash Garland (even a 2-hander) across the legs - No suspension probably (of course it depends on the severity of the slash).
b) Drop the gloves and either fight or continue grappling with Garland (if no punches thrown, he just gets a roughing minor)

He chose instead to cross-check a guy with his stick in the head. The league would be facing a tremendous amount of criticism if they don't suspend McDavid especially after they gave him a free pass on the chicken wing elbow that concussed Johanssen.

As for the Oilers fans and media fanboys, their reaction is exactly what I thought it would be. They're a special breed up there in Edmonton.

This isn't hard.

Garland committed an infraction that was definitely worthy of a penalty. No brainer.

McDavid committed an infraction worthy of a suspension. Also a no brainer. He got one.

I feel like there isn't much discussion (at least worthy discussion) that can be made about this incident.

I agree with all of this Kenny - The only addition I would make is that McDavid also committed an infraction worthy of a penalty prior to the cross-check to Garland's head.

I do love that Edmonton fans (media) are looking for retribution on Thursday because of an uncalled holding penalty from a 5'7" goon.

So, I guess these knuckleheads want the ability to designate one player per team as a "Superstar" and not only are you not allowed to do anything to them, but they are allowed to do whatever they want.

My team's designated guy is Mathieu Olivier.

They should go the tech startup route and just make up a nonsense name that no one has trademarked or domain squatted yet. Welcome to the NHL, Utah Cyvergillants!

off to trademark that

Ryan Reeves trade value just skyrocketed and I hear Matt Cooke is looking to get back into the league.

The entitlement of this franchise lol

oh fuck all the way off.

your argument is that stars should be able to crosscheck people in the face?
or that mcjebus needs protection from a 5'7" angry little elf.

I would agree with this, but it would be just a straight line at the top of the chart in my case :D

Even more embarrassing that the statement the Oilers put out today...I wonder how his dad feels about Wayne cozying up with Nazis. Fortunately, his dad is no longer with us.
