Put me in the camp that thinks Trouba is one of the most overrated players in the league. Sure, he can deliver big hits (most of them dirty), but he's a terrible defender and in my opinion a horrible teammate. Rangers win this trade just by the sheer fact of getting rid of Trouba.

I agree. A few years ago he was a decent defender who could put up some points but for a solid 2-3 years he's been garbage. And a total piece of shit too.

There’s a lot of rubbish in the NhL gm room. No way should be get away with this. It’s almost like these bottom dweller teams are just money laundering schemes.

That being said the magic bean is the most useful part of this deal with cap space coming in a close second.

Also I really think what we are seeing is a correction to trade clauses being over used to try and mitigate cap numbers or to gain interest from a free agent

They started being handed out like candy and GMs are realizing that they undervalued them in negotiations. I’d bet that we’ll either see less of them or more moves like these to circumvent them going forward

Yes, but with the cap going up, it will likely be considered a bargain in the latter half of the deal. Bob delivered a Cup in the 5th year of his 7th year deal with the Panthers, so Igor has some time to work with.
