Whenever we play the Senators it's always a moment for me to go 'oh THAT's where that guy is now.'

Tonight that was Claude Giroux. I forgot he was there.

And that made me think about him some. Solid career numbers - He'll certainly finish just outside the top 50 in points and will end near 400 goals most likely. He's a lock for top 50 all-time in assists. Is he a hall of famer to you? Is his career a disappointment?

I think I just can't think of another guy that is as productive as him without having a significant impact on his team. Obviously guys like Crosby and Ovechkin dwarfed him, but even less stellar but sure fire hall of fame contemporaries like Kopitar, Stamkos, Tavares, and Backstrom all seem like much more impactful players even though statistically they are all pretty similar.

Is it character? Is it a lack of deep playoff runs? Was he let down by the Flyers' organization and buried from the spotlight by being on mediocre teams? Or was he a great player who is overlooked and underappreciated? Genuinely interested in others perspectives on him b/c I think he's a bit of an enigma.

Not a hall of famer.
Very good secondary player, never really put a team on his back.

- to the team that trades for him.

Then looking at the shitty contracts the Penguins have and realizing they could dump their bad salaries for this god awful one.

It kind of reminds me of old video games when they first started having franchise things like trades. In the early games teams would usually accept a trade if total overall talent was equal. So you could usually trade for a Jagr by sending the other team 6-8 really awful players. DEAL!

Jarry 55 overall, Graves 50 overall and Karlsson 70 overall for Jones 50 overall and Future Considerations 85 overall.

I hope he goes to the Oilers.

For a few reasons.

Very good secondary player, never really put a team on his back.

He was a beast with Philly. Three times he was top 5 in Hart voting. He was fantastic with Ottawa until about this time last year but time seems to be catching up. He's super competitive and I wouldn't mind one bit if he was the captain instead of Tkachuk.

Unless he rebounds and plays another couple of years at his level of two years ago I think he falls short of the HHOF. To me he's a great player who's somewhat overlooked. Not quite at the same level (on all fronts) but he's a bit like Dale Hawerchuk in the 80s being overshadowed by the Oilers and Flames (Pens and Caps) in his conference/division.

To me Jones's contract is bad but if the Hawks retained ~$2.75M it's really not bad. He's a #1B/#2 D who plays the right side. Skating is good for a guy his size and he's not with out puck skills. At $7M and under he's a good player if he has a decent team around him, IMO.

Always a great player and like you I think he ends up falling into that trade of the Hall of Very Good.

What I always thought was funny with Flyer fans, after Mike Richards failed as the "He is better than Crosby" garbage their fans loved to do. They latched on to Giroux. Granted he was better than Richards but never should have been compared to Crosby. But that is typical Flyer fans.

Yeah a team getting him for 7 million wouldn't be bad. Granted if that team needs to rely on him to be the top D-man they are in trouble.

Giroux was doomed right from the start lol

That draft had some great players and just imagine if Giroux was picked by the Blackhawks vs Toews. Giroux would be on the all-time lists (deservedly) and Toews probably wouldn't have been more than a blurb in the NHL history.

Whereas in reality Giroux has been very good and borderline great even though he played on some bad Flyer teams, and I truly think Toews is a product of being on the right team.

Thanks for the thoughts, Kenny. Good perspective. Curious if others think Giroux is HOF bound or bound for the Hall of Very Good.

Also, Sens played a great game last night. Thought they deserved the win and would not want them as a playoff matchup. If they can find some finishing, their speed, transition game, and puck pressure was top notch. Caps were on their heels the first two periods and couldn't find any kind of rhythm in a way that I hadn't really seen this year. Credit to the Sens for that.

I'll also give Chychrun the quote of the night answering a reporter question regarding an anticipated icy reception returning to Ottawa... "I didn't trade myself." Haha.

That was a really good game last night. Felt almost playoff-ish. Thompson and Merilainen were both great. Ottawa has been playing really good hockey lately but they could really use a finisher. Having trouble scoring but generally carry the play.

Chychrun was pretty damn bad for Ottawa (80% of the time anyway) but in fairness he was never really a good fit. Sanderson and Chabot were already hear as top 4 LD and he was asked to play the right or with a guy on his offside for much of the time. He's a weird dude but it's good to see him playing well for the Caps. Jensen has been absolutely excellent for us so I have no complaints.

Totally agree, playoff vibes. The goalies were phenomenal. Thompson riding just over 145 minutes of ice time without giving up a goal, allowing just one in 3 games.

Chychrun/Jensen swap seems like a win-win for both teams at this point.

We should pool our money and open that

I just Venmo'd you the cash, and note it will be listed as AdultX4.

This is NOT an adult site but an accidental copy/paste from a movie stub when I set up my Venmo account after attending a movie with friends. Since we are masturbation accountability partners, I wouldn't want you to think I figured out a way to go around the app we use.

Now all we need is a second tier city appropriate to the them of our museum. Mediocre tourism numbers, limited recreational venues, and low on the prestige scale. Like an Olympic selection committee where the lowest scoring city actually wins.

I think our nominees are Winnipeg, Indianapolis, Omaha, Oakland, and Raleigh.

Can our inaugural inductee be Vincent Damphousse? Into the Hall Of Very Good, not as a masturbation accountability partner.
