been trying to explain to my gf about hockey (she hates sports and especially is wary of hockey due to the fighting)...so in explaining to her why there is fighting, i realized that during this losing stretch seems like this team is a) not really sticking up for each other and b) not starting fights to fire up their teammates...i think this is an important part of hockey and someone needs to step it up...hell Mr. Dumbo Joe Blowski the Captain should start dropping some mofos...and im totally fucking serious! show some fire and leadership (aka dont wait till game 3-4 whatever it was to fight Getzlaf...you know what i mean?)

Joe fighting Getzlaf was one of the stupidest things I have ever seen him do. He has no natural fight in him. At all. So for me it came off as completely contrived and as a desperate response to huge media / fan / and probably locker room pressure to do ANYTHING even remotely leadership like. Total BS.

I do completely agree with your overall point though. Honestly, I think the team has for the most part packed it in. Not everyone of them, but overall, where's the fight? They should hate losing, and if they are down in a game, pound the other team mercilessly... Those were the shark teams I liked.. Miss those days.

What difference would Eager make? He doesn't fight much. Only four this year. In the game they just played against the Sharks he refused to go against Vandermeer with the game tied and the Sharks having all the momentum.

He also takes a lot of stupid penalties when he plays mad. With the Sharks inconsistancy on the PK that's probably not going to benifit the team much. Besides, how many cups did/have Roenick, Nolan, Iginla, Neely win because they would play "mad"?

The last thing you want on the ice are guys who play mad. You want guys who up there energy and start doing things outside of there usual game but are even keel emotionally. The Sharks have gotten this in spades from their role players but almost nothing from the top six. Every time Eager tried doing this last year he would make a bonehead play that ended up costing the team and earned him a spot in the PB.

Yea but bonehead stuff cant exactly cost a team thats gone what? 2-7-3, 2-7-4? in their last 12, 13? Their pretty much gonna lose anyway, at least it would be something entertaining to watch

Granted players who play mad tend to be much more entertaining to watch I'd much rather see the team win. Right now neither what the current top players are doing or having players play mad are going to let this team win games regularly.

Players don't have to be mad to throw bodychecks or fight. They just have to be willing to commit to doing whatever it takes to help the team win even if it's outside there comfort zone. Right now the Sharks aren't getting this at all from most of their top players.

+1
While it was nice to seem him do *something* it was about as awkward as someone describing a prostate exam at Thanksgiving dinner. Joe and Patty are NOT those kind of guys - never going to happen. The one thing they have done in the past, and have NO excuse for not doing is being physical down low and finishing checks.. but neither of the guys is going to be an Owen Nolan.

When a whole team under performs.. you have to look at coaching and mgmt..

Well if you look at coaching, WHAT exactly do you look at?? Sutter was too mean to them, Wilson was mean & called them out, Todd is nice to them & has retarded coaching skills... What exactly do you put behind the bench, cause no matter what you put back their, the players in the black hole of SJ dont respond. Personally I always liked the asshole type coach like Sutter, Keenan, etc that will yell at you and will call you out and make you feel like shit. Why? because most likely you deserve the shitty call out, and if it embarasses you & or hurts your feelings, then grow a set & dont do the stupid things you shouldnt be doing in the first place. But players in the "NEW" (aka pansy) NHL dont like that cause they have fragile feelings...

I'd be really interested to see what this team would do with a coach like Hitchcock, Torts, or Tippett. A coach that's demanding on players and known as a taskmaster but at the same time they aren't douchebags about it like a Keenan or Sutter.

I would like Hitchcock as our coach.
