This is easy.
Thanksgiving Day. November 25, 1971 (I was 9 y/o)
#1 Nebraska (10-0) @ #2 Oklahoma (9-0)
The Game of the Century
yea, yea. I'll tell ya one that sticks out in my mind is a play from the mid to late 90's I think. Weinke was the QB. We had ya'll pushed back near the goal line and Weinke pulls off an incredible PA ball fake. He turns his back to the LoS and hides the ball against his chest and the entire D bites on the run, then he drops one over the top to a wide open WR for a 90+ yd TD. I remember it well.

And Everett Marshall was clipped on that play just as he was about to grab Rogers. It should have never been called a touchdown. Would you have gone on to score anyway? Maybe. And the fumble that Steve Aycock recovered at the 10 yard line on your final scoring drive? Even the Nebraska players thought OU had recovered it. Those were two plays that went against Oklahoma that cost us a NC. Oh well, if it had to happen I'm glad it happened against Nebraska. The Nebraska fans were really classy after the game (no surprise) when they admitted the fumble was a bad call. Both schools have such respect for each other there are no hard feelings. The fans are who have suffered the most since OU and NU can't hook it up every year. Here's to hoping we meet again soon in another NC game.
It's a tie
I have heard this from OU fans before.
At what yard line was the clip? I can't see their #'s due to the age of the film, but OU has Marshall listed as Both #80 as a sophomore in 1969 and as #24 as a senior in 1971.
Are you talking about the 43 yd line where the Oklahoma player is facing the blocker, turns his back at the last second, and is literally blocked into Rodgers, who breaks the tackle anyway?
If you turn your back to a blocker, it is not a clip.
Unfortunately the only place Nebraska and Oklahoma can match up is in a play-off or NC game because oddly there are no bowl tie-ins between the Big 10 and Big XII.![]()
Listen to the crowd after the return. That was AT Oklahoma.
This one sticks out in my mind. While I saw 4D20's play in person and thought it was amazing, this one sticks out in my mind as the most amazing catch i have ever seen. Sorry about the copy of this being from a show, but this is the clearest version there is of this play i could find.

When this play happened live, I was listening to the game on the radio. I heard that he chased him down and took the ball, but I had no clue and didn't even imagine how far he had come from and what a race it was. First time I saw it, even though I knew about the play, my jaw still dropped.
I considered that play as well and it was one of the first ones that came up in my mind. It was a hard choice. The stage of the plays was a big factor ultimately.
It happened at the OU 33 yard line. Everett Marshall was one of the fastest, if not THE fastest players ever at Oklahoma. He had Deion Sanders speed. Extremely fast. He was catching Rogers like JR was pulling a U-Haul and we all know how fast Johnny Rogers was. Anyway, Everett was clipped. There was no replay at that time so the non-call stood. That's football. Marshall would have pulled Rogers down somewhere around the 25 and who knows what would have happened if he had caught him? The really bad call was the fumble that Steve Aycock recovered on the OU 10 on Nebraska's last drive. That was horrid. Then OU had one last chance after Nebraska scored to go ahead 35-31 and Jack Mildren over threw Jon Harrison by a couple of inches when he was behind the Nebraska defender wide open in the middle of the field. That one was on the OU coaching staff. Harrison and Mildren were both from Abilene Cooper and were allowed to stay on the field together even when Willie Franklin (who was 6" taller and played for the Colts when Harrison never played pro ball) wasn't on the field on that play. The OU players always said Willie would have easily caught that pass and the Sooners would have won the game. Missed calls, great plays, bad decisions, two outstanding teams; that game had it all. Let's hope our upcoming home and home series is just as good. Go Big Red. Northern style and Southern style.
yep, the crowd was pissed because the refs missed 2 obvious clips on that return. I was there and one of the pissed off people, LOL!~
but Nebbish fans did turn out in force for that game, no doubt.
oh ya, fuck Johnny Rogers....
LOL
That is no clip. The NU blocker is on the 34 when the OU defender is on the 37. He's already in front of him, therefore it's impossible to have clipped him. The block was in the side at worst and even that would not have been a clip.
