? becomes if the Thunder win this series does that take away a lot from the Warriors' record season?

I don't see how it couldn't. The 2 previous regular season record holders finished their seasons with championships.

2014-15 Warriors
2013-14 Spurs
2012-13 Heat

I think you misunderstood. The Heat have never been the regular season record holder. I'm talking about the 69-13 Lakers and the 72-10 Bulls. That Heat team won 66 games, but it wasn't the regular season record.

Don't think I worded it all that well either.

Understandable now. Thought you meant the teams with the best regular season record over the last 2 seasons

Yeah, I looked at my post after I saw yours and thought..."I bet I could have stated that a little better."

of course it does.

no one gives a flying f about the Patriots undefeated season after they lost the title. If the Warriors FAIL to even make it to the Finals the record really doesnt mean dick.

Regular season is HUGELY different from the postseason.

Thus far- in the last 2 years- this is the FIRST series the Warriors have played against a healthy team that was roughly their talent level. I cant wait to see how they respond.

If they lose before the Finals the Warriors should change the name of their team colors to White, Blue and Fools-Gold Yellow.

Without finishing the job, 73 wins is just a nice season.

They had the greatest regular season in NBA history. No changing that.

If they don't make the finals, then they're squarely out of the "best team" conversation and it won't be close. You can't take away from a record, but it eliminates bigger conversation.

That's the point. It's a nice season, but without a title, it really doesn't mean a whole lot. It essentially becomes a record with an asterisk because they'd be the only team to hold the regular season wins record that didn't finish with a title.

Why an asterisk? The best regular season record has no correlation to best team ever. There were plenty of great teams(better than the current Warriors) that didn't come close to holding the regular season record. The Warriors would be out of the best team ever conversation, which is fine. They still had the best regular season.

An asterisk is deserved if you believe they somehow conned their way into winning that amount of games. They ran the gauntlet during the regular season and played the best competition when their competition was at full health. They beat a fully healthy Cavs team twice, they beat the Thunder all 3 times. They beat the next best team with 67 wins, the Spurs, 3 out of 4 times. The Warriors ran over teams during the regular season and were dominant when they did so.

An asterisk because they didn't finish the job. The best regular season record does actually have correlation to the best team ever conversation. A big part of the reason the 72-10 Bulls are in that conversation is because of the fact that they finished with a title. Same with the 69-13 Lakers.

Again, great regular season, nice record to hold, but doesn't mean a lot without a title. Think about it, how much does the Patriots 18-0 record mean since they lost in the Super Bowl?

An asterisk is deserved if you believe they somehow conned their way into winning that amount of games. And despite all of that, they would have still lost when it mattered most.
