True, but it makes a ton of sense to draft a guy in the 2nd round and trade him for a top 15 pick in later years.

Not at the expense of filling other critical needs and we have other critical needs. Besides, how often does what you just proposed actually happen? I would guess almost never, mostly because if you have a player worth a top 15 pick you probably are not looking to trade him.

I would much rather go after a pro-bowl starter at a position of need than waste a high pick on a back-up QB that will cost too much, rarely see the field, and either play the role or get traded in future years for 1/3 to 1/2 of what we drafted him for. That is a much more realistic scenario.
