Hey Forkem,

What did your brother (or was it cousin?) think of his trip to Lincoln?

The vast majority of fumbles are unlikely chance of occurrence. What makes those any different?

Thru 5 games NU has lost more fumbles than every other FBS team. Up from being 2nd from the bottom last week. I hope that's a fluke that stops this week and never returns.

What makes the difference is if the player is taking care of the ball at the time, are the defensive players good at stripping the ball, is the protection necessary there or are we leaving our quarterback exposed.

You can not just say we are leading the stats for fumbles lost and therefore make a generic statement saying we have a problem with ball security.

I am looking at the individual cases and saying that it is not on the carriers shoulders all the time except maybe in the case of Ameer, a young and aggressive player who will grow.

Below are the fumbles in the last game and my thoughts on each.

1st qtr

TM recovered by TM - 1st snap - In my opinion a gimme due to jitters

RB recovered by Wisconsin -Borland This one was a fluke, like I said before, Burkhead does not have a problem with ball security. no problem here

TM recovered by TM - not sure what happened here. He seems to have simply dropped it and got lucky with the bounce to get it right back - 1 for poor ball security probably but not a fumble lost luckily

3rd Quarter

TM recovered by Wisconsin - Borland - This was on the line. Borland and Gilbert both line up on right side. Our line did not adjust and let them right through. TM was in throwing motion when Borland took it from blind side. Questionably an incomplete pass. Looked to me like he had already started coming forward.

4th Quarter

AA recovered by TM - AA had both hands on ball. Wisky was reaching in all day and trying to strip balls. Young player who will get better

I know you see the stats but I really don't think these were that big of coaching points in this game. I hope they focus a lot more on the calls then on ball security this week.

Hey Forkem,

What did your brother (or was it cousin?) think of his trip to Lincoln?

All I got was that he thought Omaha nightlife was okay, but that he was having a great time in Lincoln before the game. Seems like that's a pretty broad sentiment so far from the Badger fans; the part about Lincoln, I don't know anyone else who partied in Omaha on Friday.

5 Fumbles last night alone? I'd lost count.

I hear what you are saying but as a coach which would you address? One for TM would be WTF?

Aheem might be you need to learn to hold that ball for dear life when they are grabbing. Other than that what?

And there were 5 but only 2 lost and one should have been an incomplete pass.

Still I get what you are saying but I just don't think it is an issue like in the past even though the stats still show them.

lol, I haven't been part of the drinking crowd there in over 25 years but it seems to me it was pretty good back then. That said not so much bars as door admission parties. Seems there was always a good party going on every weekend.

Bars were pretty much just to meet up at and head to a party.

And I assume the puking on shoes is done by the kids in Lincoln.

Omaha's bar scene is too scattered. I never had much fun going out drinking there. DT Lincoln is like a melting pot of all kinds of different people because there's something for everyone and it's concentrated in just a few blocks. . You don't get that in Omaha.

Omaha wouldn't be able to sustain the Lincoln scene year around. Only during the CWS.

During the summmer months Omaha's Old Market bars are hopping on weekends but even there they aren't door to door density. They are block to block.

Honestly I don't understand how any one can afford to go out any more. I went to Louisville (KY not NE) last week and me and Isis went out one night and it was over $100. the only reason it wasn't more than that was because we started out with happy hour 1/2 price wells at Makers Mark (yes Makers is a well drink there). We then quit for 3 hours and went back out for late happy hour at a micro brewery for 1/2 price wells and then about an hour in the hotel bar full price.

I for one can't afford to do that every weekend.

Yeah but it takes more than 2 beers to get me drunk :dhd:

Seriously we went from 4-7 $3 wells at Makers Mark. 1/2 price at G&B 10 - close (12:30) and then full price at the hotel bar ($8 wells) til closing about 1:30 -1:45.

edit: and that over $100 is two people.

And since we are on a derail, all you bourbon drinkers have to check out Makers Mark.

They have what's called flights ( i did not partake). What they are are a series of shots of certain bourbons. One was the turkey flight which was all the Wild Turkey bourbons lined up and then you take them left to right. Others were natural, aged etc.

Pretty cool but I was to cheap to take a go at them, plus I had to drive the next day.
