Isn't this an NCAA violation?

Do all the students at the University have access to the schools money to hire lawyers to get themselves out of trouble, if not then this is an extra benefit for the players, is it not?

Since it's an NCAA incident, OSU could reasonably be the one dealing with the NCAA, not the players.

And I trust OSU enough to dot their i's before doing something like this.

student athletes are technically representatives of the institution so it makes sense for the school to be able to back them up
