FLOWERY BRANCH – Rams rookie linebacker Alec Ogletree, a rookie from Newnan and the University of Georgia, had a strong NFL debut against Arizona.
Ogletree and cornerback Cortland Finnegan led the Rams with seven tackles in the 27-24 victory over the Cardinals.
Ogletree was selected with the 30th pick of the first round by the Rams.
“He’s improved throughout the preseason,” Rams coach Jeff Fisher said on the conference call with Atlanta medai on Wednesday. “There was steady improvement from Week 1 to Week 4.”
Ogletree played 66 defensive snaps (93 percent) against Arizona. He also played eight snaps on special teams.
“We are asking him to do an awful lot as a young player, play in base and also stay on the field in sub-packages,” Ogletree said. “It will be a while before he’s seen everything. But he’s a bright young man. He loves the game and is very talented. He has a huge upside."
