If Miami tries to move him this winter, I think they'll be able to get another team to give up a lot more. If they wait until the trade deadline next year, who knows.

I don't think Jackson would mean anything to them. His contract expires after next year. It would have to be cheap guys with multiple years under club control that have huge upsides.

Seems like this winter would be the time to move him and get the best package back, similar to Tampa trying to move David Price last winter. With 2 years left I think their position will weaken the longer they hold onto him. I obviously don't see him resigning in Miami. Guy could be the first $30 mil per year player. Obviously I would love him but we will see what happens.

Yeah, I agree. Even if Jackson had several years of club control left, I don't think it would make him look a whole lot better in the aforementioned package idea for Stanton.

I've thought for awhile that the M's were going to be the last team to sign somebody for 10 years/$225+ million. I still think that. It's just something I can't imagine seeing again in this steroid "lite" era, even from the Yanks/Dodger/Sox.

If Stanton get $30 mill/year, it will be really interesting precedent-wise to see for how long.

Obviously my scenario was hypothetical, but because Jackson's contract is where it is I feel that would be actually good for them. They got fleeced on the Cabrera deal and so they would automatically have a trade chip for the deadline.

I don't think he will get $30 million a year. The guy is great but I don't think he is in Cabrera or Trout's league in terms of overhaul. But Stanton is the exact type of player Seattle has needed since Sexson dropped off the mat.

For sure, wazzu.

I'd be fine with the M's upping it to include pretty much anybody, though I'd rather hold onto Paxton.

My dream would be to see Z and Co build the franchise around Stanton and Paxton with stalwarts like Cano and Felix as their mentors.

Oops, I assumed the Jackson in that trade proposal was Alex Jackson.

I was talking Austin Jackson in case there was a question on my proposal/the one I stole from MLB network. And ya, no shot I even contemplate a Stanton deal if it involves Walker and Paxton, but if Jack could work some magic and do a Walker and Hultzen I'd be ok with it.

In order to ever sign a dude like Stanton he needs to be in Seattle first and like the place, that is the only way they do not have to massively overpay like they did with Cano and the team cannot afford to have 3 guys take up 80% of the payroll.

Not sure how to approach Morales.

There is no explanation for how poorly he hit this year with both the Twins and the Mariners. You could blame his initial slow start with the Twins on the fact that he hadn't been playing, but even as the season continued he kept struggling.

On the other hand, I could easily see him rebounding next year as he has been a very consistent hitter throughout his career.

Which is the one reason I say if I were the M's I'd offer a 1 year deal. No team will approach what Boras wants after how horrible he played last season. He should be cheap and fits a need for the team. If they can go cheap on fitting some holes then they can get created or spend heavily on the glaring weakness which is a power hitting OF or 1B.

the good news is that he can't command what he was trying for last year.

let's see if boras is stupid enough to fuck over his client again.

Personally, I can see Boras to pull his usual shit then Morales will fire him by the end of the winter meetings. Boras' stubbornness cost Kendrys what 20 something million in guaranteed money.
