Id be ok keeping willie another year on the condition that travis green doesnt leave utica in the offseason. Then he can get the canucks job the year after that

This way we get another high draft choice for sure next season because willie will continue to roll 4 lines and play stiffs like dorsett and vey in late game situations when theyre down :ohwell:

Couldn't you make the argument that another year of Willie will stifle the growth of the younger players on the squad? I mean, I can only imagine how good a player guys like Kadri and Gardiner could be right now had Randy not been given 3 years to completely fuck them up.

didnt hear that. but I wouldnt be surprised. my mind is I hope we get a top 3 draft pick and pray to get first overall. keep Willie and see where we are in December....
Someone (jstew probs) said the other day the one thing Benning's done well is scouting. I wouldn't be too concerned where the Canucks draft so long as it's in the top ten. This draft is pretty deep. While Matthews is the prize, and he has a lot of things going for him, I'm doubtful that the gap between him and whoever the other best forwards at the top wind up being will be anything close to the gap so far between McDavid and his contemporaries.

I really want the best D man available and hope that we can trade down and get something more as well.
This is probably not the best idea, though - after Chychrun, whom I've read and seen both really positive and really negative stuff about, there aren't many top-tier d-men if rankings and previews are to be believed. If you're picking top ten, you should be walking away with a good forward.

yah i just said i could live with another year of Willie so mattola wouldnt go away again lol ... the chances Travis Green sticks around in Utica for another year are slim

While I dont think Willie is bad with the young guys, for a guy coming from a junior background, he sure has a hard time trusting them with ice time. Its a case by case basis on how theyre handling the kids. Baertchi is doing well. Virtanen has found a role (i think). In some respects I understand what theyre doing with a guy like McCann. He doesnt have the man strength to compete so they spot him and keep him away from the bigger heavier teams that could hurt him (like the ducks). And anyway, management has more of a call on that.

Ive been calling for Travis Green for some months now. Willie is a good man but Ive come to see there was a reason he didnt get an NHL head coaching job in the first 57 years of his life. I think hes the assistant coach everybody wants. Ferraro thinks Green will be a star. Said he took alot from Al Arbour. Ive heard quite a few of the Utica guys say hes a great communicator. And man, he has got the kids in Utica developing ... everyone here wants to see the Utica 3 ( #freetheUtica3 ) Shinkaruk, Gaunce and Pedan.

Not just the kids but Higgins is playing better down there and Prust apparently looked fast and had an assist in his first game down there this week. Sure its a step down for them and theyre at a career crossroads so they should be better, but Willie didnt get them going on the Canucks :noidea:

my preference would be that they make the change

I seem to remember reading differently ... that its Matthews ... 2 to 7 could be all stars ... and 8 down could be a mishmash of who knows :noidea:

They need a skilled go to franchise stud for the next 10 years ... especially with McJesus/Gaudreau in the division ... looks like theyll be in the 2 to 7 range but closer to 1 would be better lol

Bobby Mac was discussing the draft on the radio last week and said everything from 4-14 is up in the air, that teams could have guys 4-6 while other teams will have those same guys 10-12 etc.

I'd be happy with any of them. I really want Nylander's brother here so I wouldn't even hate if the Leafs traded down should they win the lottery.

Ferraro had plenty of nice things to say about Dallas Eakins too lol.

But I agree, if keeping Willard will keep Matty around, long may he live!

I listen every day at 1 on 1050, he thought Eakins had a "bright future" when he was with the Marlies. Heard it on more than one occasion during the many Ron Wilson death watches here. He coached 2 AHL ASG's and took what was a relatively weak Marlies side to the AHL final. Not like Ray was the only one.

So the fact he unloaded on air on the guy after it quickly became apparent the Coilers were destined for yet another season of shititude doesn't really say much other than even some of the better media guys are prone to reactionism and conflicting opinions.

yah I dont know ... its true everyone thought Eakins would be something but ferraro had a morning radio show with Scott Rintoul and Paul Chapman on the cesspool prior to Coilers hiring Eakins and I always thought he was a dont believe the hype guy on Eakins :noidea:
