Some of those guys (don't know if Hill was one) have said they'd come back for less. So, he may re-sign if it means a shot at playing alongside Kobe, 'Melo and Lebron.

It seems to me that there would be a reason that the only FA's from last year that have gone elsewhere are Kaman (who wasn't coming back anyway) and Meeks (who likely just got the biggest contract he'll ever get in his career).

First, we have to see if they even get one or the other or both. Then we will see who they can put around them. I'd imagine that they gave some idea as to what the rest of the roster would look like. It seems to have impressed 'Melo enough to put the Lakers solidly in the running for him.

They probably showed what it might look with both 'Melo and Lebron and also what it might look like with just one of them.

I don't doubt this was part of their pitch. I just don't see any way in hell they can pull it off.

Melo IMO will not work with Kobe......SOMEONE has to sacrifice shots, especially in the 4th quarter........Lebron is a clear fit, Melo is not, and it's not just the Lakers. I don't see him fitting in Houston either.

I'm sure Kobe is working the phones like crazy, but I still think this has 0% chance of happening that the Lakers get Melo, Lebron, and I'd give them a 50% chance to resign Pau. I just don't see how this ends well for them right now. That roster even in the west with no bench is not going to win. LA tried this already before......

I tend to agree with you Shanemans.

It just doesn't look good, if they can't get Melo or Lebron. I mean they signed Kobe to win NOW, but they will have to take a backseat for now.

I have watched the Cavs do that ever since Lebron left, still waiting.

You assume too much. Nobody thought the big 3 in Miami would work, until it did. I also seriously doubt the Lakers get both (maybe a 10% chance). I think it's 50/50 that they get one and if they do, it'll likely be 'Melo, not Lebron. If they get one of them, it's highly likely that Pau re-signs. He loves L.A. and being a Laker and he and Kobe are close as well.

The problem with 'Melo in Houston would be Harden and Dwight. Harden is more of a chucker than Kobe ever was and Dwight has complained about touches every where he's been. I could see the 3 of them playing tug of war with the ball in the middle of a game.

Kobe and 'Melo should be fine. Kobe has shown throughout his career that he will pass when he has teammates that he can trust and he has shown that as he's gotten older, he is an even more willing passer. He knows he can't carry a team anymore.

Either way, the situation isn't nearly as bleak as some would like it to be.

Comparing the Lakers to the Cavs. Now your desperation is showing.

If we don't get em...then we don't get em, simple as that. The future isn't bleak because the future at this time is Julius Randle. If it takes time to slowly get back, then it just takes time, no big deal.

I don't agree with you Laker fans......Kobe has NEVER shown a willingness to pass for more than a game or two, you can end that myth right now.

Melo and Kobe are BOTH chuckers.......it's just not a good fit. Lebron is a MUCH better fit because he isn't going to fight ANYBODY for touches.

Melo, Pau, Kobe, and waiver wire players isn't a contender in the west. It puts none of the mentioned players any closer to a ring. If this pairing were coming together in the east, it would be a better chance.

I just don't see this as a winning combo even if it does happen, which I don't really think will.

:agree: Not going to hold my breath either way. The Lakers went through the 90's with one finals appearance and then won 5 titles in 7 finals trips starting in 2000.

Way I heard it is adding either carmelo OR lebron not both they could still add gasol and maybe an Trevor ariza and Jordan hill. Possibly isiah thomas. Way it's looking don't think they land either carmelo or lebron. In the end carmelo stays in new york despite LA emerging lately as a possibility

Really?!? Feel free to disagree and be wrong. Kobe averaged approx. 8 assists per game when the Lakers made their push into the playoffs when Dwight was here.

I love how posters who don't watch every Lakers game, try to tell those who do, what they've been watching.

Perhaps you should worry more about why Cuban has never been able to sign a top FA and worry less about what the Lakers are doing.

Yeah, it might almost be better if they only got one. They could put a stronger roster around them and then go after another player or 2 in a couple of years when Kobe retires and Nash is completely off the books.

I also don't think the Lakers get either, but it sure is fun watching how the very fact that it's a possibility has rustled so many jimmies in here.

Heck, I almost want the Lakers to pull this off more to watch all of the whining that's going to happen if they do. The conspiracy theorists will lose their everlovin' minds.

I've read here that people are saying both Hill and Ariza are off the board.
I never heard or read anything to confirm that, has anyone else?

Next, if anyone truly thinks that Anthony/James are both going to LA to play for 2/3 of what Kobe makes, my question would be what does your bath water taste like?

Rustled jimmies? Come on.
Neither is going alone, and both won't consider going together because of Kobe's 48M loyalty payment.
It's nice you guys think big, but like everyone outside of Lakerland has been saying since it happened, that move was another 2 year setback.

No one has. It was speculation by those who are scared the Lakers will get both Lebron and 'Melo. Hill hasn't signed with anyone and to my knowledge, neither has Ariza.

If the Lakers only get one (more likely 'Melo than Lebron) they can re-sign Pau, keep Hill and possibly get Ariza or Isaiah Thomas. In the extremely unlikely event that they got both, Gasol would probably have to be moved to NY or Miami via sign and trade and they will be much more limited in how they can fill the roster.

A lot of what you're reading on here is the result of folks getting their panties in a twist because it's been reported that the Lakers have emerged as the top threat to keep 'Melo from re-signing with the Knicks and ESPN was speculating on how the Lakers could get both.

You sure?

Los Angeles Lakers emerges as top threat to keep Carmelo Anthony from re-signing with New York Knicks - ESPN Los Angeles

And just because "everyone" says something, doesn't mean they're right. "Everyone" said that Miami was going to win a bunch of titles in a row. They went 2-2 so far.

You should know that "everyone says" is easily one of the weakest arguments that can be made.

The Lakers could sign all of them and somehow Short Bus will still find a way to fuck it all up.

And now, introducing your brand new Los Angeles Lakers .... LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and new head coach Nick van Exel!

Dude he averaged those assists for like 1 week, not a season......and as soon as the playoffs started is was back to chucking.

Kobe is NOT a passer, never has been, and never will be. If you want to cherry pick extremely small periods of time over the 99% of his career then continue to wear the blinders. At this point EVERYONE including YOU knows what Kobe is and what Kobe isn't.
