Redskins signed OLB Pernell McPhee.

McPhee had an offer from the Redskins for nearly a week. He couldn't find anyone to better it. McPhee is coming off a disastrous three-year stint in Chicago after signing a high-dollar deal in 2015. Going on 30, he will work to earn situational pass rusher duties this summer.

he will slot as the #3 outside linebacker

If the skins landed Rae Carruth you would laud it as a good pickup.

Rae Carruth pre murder was pretty good.

Rae Carruth post murder was not very good.

Which Rae Carruth are you interested in, Philly fan?

You need to stop mainlining Jay Gruden's dingle-berries, homey.

The Washington Redskins have added another veteran pass rushing presence to their roster in seven-year free agent outside linebacker Pernell McPhee.

McPhee, 29, has amassed career totals of 182 tackles, 31 sacks and six forced fumbles.

His signing is a homecoming of sorts as he played four seasons north of D.C. in Baltimore. While with the Ravens he was a top reserve for one of the NFL’s best defenses. His best season with the Ravens came in 2014 when produced 7.5 sacks and 17 tackles.

In 2015, McPhee signed a lucrative five-year, $38.75 million deal with the Chicago Bears. After just three years the Bears released him partly due to his inability to stay healthy.

In Washington, McPhee will be counted on to take the place of two departed outside linebackers in Trent Murphy and Junior Galette. Murphy has moved on to the Buffalo Bills via free agency after missing the entire 2017 due to tearing his left ACL and MCL during the preseason.

Galette who is a free agent was offered a contract from the Redskins but the team recently decided to withdraw the offer and let the former Temple and Stillman College product leave for another suitor. He has missed two out of his three seasons with Washington due to Achilles injuries in both legs.

McPhee now gives the Redskins four outside linebackers on the roster along with Pro Bowler Ryan Kerrigan, Preston Smith and Ryan Anderson. McPhee’s signing should allow Anderson more time to tailor his game to the NFL level as the rookie struggled to make an impact in 2017.

The big question for McPhee will be his availability on Sunday’s. Over the past three seasons in Chicago, McPhee has missed 12 games. Over his career, he has played in 96 total games with only 23 starts.

Wonder how much, if any, the “slave deal” comment played in withdrawing the offer from Junior

Galette needs to stop worrying about the deals for other players. He appeared to be overly concerned about Murphy's deal with the Bills. WTF. I could understand that viewpoint if Murphy signed that kind of deal with the Redskins but this was for a totally different team. Dude - get over it already & move on.

He was really rubbing me the wrong way with some of his comments on twitter....

I kinda think hes just a bad dude.... like not a good person who was blessed with immense physical talent and athleticism

Well - in certain cases (e.g. Cousins) you make an argument that this is a bad approach. However I don't see it that way in the case of Galette. Honestly what exactly has he done recently to deserve any type of big deal? He did well in some of the games late last season but overall didn't accomplish much & did nothing the previous 2 seasons due to injuries.

Saying that - sure - perhaps some team will give him relatively big $$ because some NFL teams are acting in an insane manner at this time. I also hope for the best for Galette & sure he might do very well - just clarifying that it is a crapshoot at this time.

Funny thing is, I wanted McPhee when he left Baltimore. Now I don’t want him. Is that discriminatory of me because it is an age thing?
