It feels like this visit has been talked about for two weeks already. Sheesh.

Joe Person: Free agent RB Mike Tolbert scheduled to have dinner w/ Panthers' official tonight in Charlotte, then meet with coaches Mon. at BoA Stadium.

I'm really concerned about Ginn not returning to the Niners. I think he's the most important FA out there except Peyton. I'd rather have him and go with a young RG like Kilgore than sign a RG and go with any other KR on the roster. If the Ravens, who have a good shot at being in the SB, sign him I'll be pretty upset.

avery would look nice in a niner uni. hopefully we're still looking for another wr or two in free agency. the guys that are left shouldn't be too expensive.

+5. I want Ginn back as a return specialist.
He was real good last year.
I would draft a receiver as well, and then KW would be on the bubble as far as I'm concerned fighting with the rookie for a roster spot.

Moss, Crabree, Manningham, Ginn, Williams/rookie

I don't want another free agent, I want to draft one more. don't care if it's still early since Moss is short term

my view is to fill roster spots with free agents and draft for the future. hemimgway could be a steal in the 4th/5th. first 3 rounds i see better value elsewhere. not to mention avery can contribute now while a rookie wr can struggle his first year

burress on the other hand fills a huge need for a red zone target

I want 4 more free agents.

1. Peyton Manning
2. Alex Smith (as Peyton's backup, wishful thinking to land both 1 and 2)
3. Ted Ginn as a return guy
4. a veteran guard (Leonard Davis if he still has something left) to go along with the rookie RG we draft

Avery getting attention
9:03 AM ET
Donnie Avery | Titans | Interested: Jets?

Free agent WR Donnie Avery has always seemed like a player whose impact on the stats sheet should be greater. The speedy Houston product has shown flashes of that production in the past, only to fail to back it up with consistency. After spending the 2011 season with the Tennessee Titans (racking up just three receptions for 45 yards for the entire campaign), Avery is back out on the free agency trail looking for a home. And we got an update on Sunday night as to where that tour could lead him next.

According to Adam Caplan of Fox Sports, the New York Jets will host Avery for a visit, though he does not disclose when this will be.

The Jets have a need to bolster their WR corps this offseason, with Plaxico Burress likely heading elsewhere, and in New York, Avery might finally find a place where he can really click in the offense.

One more out on Hasselbeck?
8:29 AM ET
Matt Hasselbeck | Titans | Interested: 49ers?, Browns?

We've been discussing the potential futures of the QBs possibly displaced by Peyton Manning -- [Editor's note: Sounds like a support group] -- in recent days, and one of those men is Matt Hasselbeck of the Tennessee Titans. Though the Titans went a respectable 9-7 and narrowly missed the playoffs under Hasselbeck's guidance, owner Bud Adams has instructed his front-office employees to stop at (almost) nothing in their efforts to lure Manning to Nashville. If Peyton signs with Tennessee, the expectation is that Hasselbeck will be the odd man out. As of last week, there was a sizable list of teams that might've taken a look at Hasselbeck, though that number dwindled after the weekend.

One team that has remained near the forefront of this hypothetical market for Hasselbeck is the Cleveland Browns. Browns president Mike Holmgren has a history with Hasselbeck, and many have opined that Cleveland needs another QB option in the mix with Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace. Sounds like a plan, right? According to Tony Grossi of ESPN 850 AM (Cleveland), it's not likely to happen.

"It's doubtful. Matt Hasselbeck might be a QB of interest to Mike Holmgren, but Hasselbeck more likely would be attracted to the losers of the Manning Derby because they are playoff teams. I believe that is why Holmgren started conditioning season ticket-holders last week to the reality of a Colt McCoy vs. Seneca Wallace QB competition."

The player's preference: a factor that is sometimes forgotten when assessing potential destinations. It's why Matt Flynn went to Seattle over Miami, and why certain teams have trouble luring free agents offseason after offseason. Nevertheless, all hope is not lost. If the Titans get Peyton, San Francisco -- who was interested in Hasselbeck last offseason -- could be interested in him again, given the uncertain return of Alex Smith. Interesting QB carousel playing out this year.

Ted Ginn's tour continues
7:43 AM ET
Ted Ginn | 49ers | Interested: Ravens?, Lions?

Ted Ginn's absence for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game certainly affected the outcome, as replacement Kyle Williams fumbled on two punt returns. And based on what's gone on thus far this offseason, Ginn is going to be absent for quite a bit longer. After failing to re-sign the Ohio State product, the Niners watched him take a visit with the Detroit Lions early on in free agency, and that tour continued on Friday. According to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com, Ginn had a visit with the Baltimore Ravens.

While Ginn may not be a big boost to the passing game -- he had just 19 receptions in 2011 -- it's his work on returns that is of such great interest to his suitors. Ginn scored on both punt and kickoff returns last season for the 49ers.
