I lived in Playa Del Rey at the time, so not close but tensions and race relations were incredibly tense all over the city.
Yep. Also was in Manhattan Beach, Brentwood and lastly in Simi Valley. Needless to say, Simi was awful and way too far from the beach for me.Playa del Rey, huh? Well, well, well . . . I can certainly think of many, many worse places to be.
That was insane. I remember store owners protecting their property with firearms.

True. However - I also remember that quite a few storeowners also hired people to burn their stores so that they could collect insurance money. I lived in that area at the time - what a mess. I remember that folks sweated out some other verdicts just after that time worried about additional riots.
Unless they went by a different name at the time, no. I lived there in the early 90s.Did you ever go to Ercoles or Shade when in MB? Might go there to watch Pacquaio vs. Mayweather.

Lot of shady folk taking advantage of the situation. Sad truth of mob mentality.Wow, I don't remember the part about the arson. But it certainly wouldn't surprise me.
Always that threat in the ocean. Up here in the Central Coast, same issues. They might be more recent establishments. MB is a pretty nice place to be, but there are now some junior great white patrolling the shores. So, if you want to go back and swim around, don't look like a seal.
