I am taking it that you live in the area still. Probably right, the Redskins most likely still have the most fans. Caps fans are fervent but not everyone is a hockey fan. I live in southern MD where you can drive up Route 4 to DC or Route 2 to Baltimore. There is a good mix of Nats and Oriole fans. There are a lot of Raven fans here also. I am also close to a Navy base but even outside of here you see jerseys from many different teams. Same when I go to the local sports bar.

I'm not so sure about that. I have seen a definite shift away from the Redskins in the last 5 years. This town used to be rabid about the team. Now, its apathy at best. And I only see it getting worse.

The TV numbers say it all. Nats playoff games are barely beating a 1-7 Skins regular season game. It's not a knock on the other teams in town it's just the fact that the NFL is king. The Nats couldn't even get the stadium halfway full this year while being the hottest team in baseball.

It was a thursday night game. What is an average football fan going to watch on thursday, reruns of Friends? If the Redskins played the same time as the WS game with the Nats in it, the WS game would kill the Redskins in eyeballs watching in the DMV.

We said NFL is king …. no one is arguing that. If you live here you know the apathy is at an all time high. There are more opposing jerseys in the stands than Redskin fans. Jesus H Christmas. The fucking owner had to rip out about 20,000 seats because he couldn't fill the stadium.

All that is true. That does not mean the Nats, Caps, and Bullets have a bigger following than the Skins. Rendon called out the Nats fans midseason. Don't get caught up in a pennant run. The Skins still rule D.C.

What the fuck do you want. NFL is king. I live here I am in the city 5 days a week. Do the Redskins have more fans … YES the NFL has more fans. They are not king … they have more fans by virtue of being an NFL team. The Caps and Nats are getting way more love.

The Caps do not have anywhere near the total fan base but their fan base is vocal, visible etc. If you live in the area you know the anger and apathy of Redskin fans.

I think the Skins have more fans by virtue of NFL and equity with the city. The Skins have brought us three championships. It's hard to erase that. The Caps brought nothing but heartache and misery for 20 years. The Bullets? The Nats just got here.

I remember I was the first one on here to call out Dan for pulling out seats. I was told attendance is way down league wide because of HD TV and redzone
I'm glad to see at least one of us besides me has taken the blinders off.

Oh lordy, those championships were 28+ years ago. Kind of would have been like me talking about WWII era sports when I was a teen. You have to be almost 40 to remember that.

All I know is the Skins regular season games are on par with the Nats post season games tv rating wise this year. That's not opinion or buzz. That's a fact. I'm really not sure what we are debating at this point?

Being less angry at the Nats and Caps doesn't mean you are more interested in them. Show me a Nats or Caps board that gets as much action as this one does or the old ESPN one did. The fact that we are talking Nats on a Skins board proves my point.

Nats are now down 3-2 in the series, but baseball is far different than football and basketball. You'd have to know the game to realize that momentum in a series often changes as the venue changes.

Don't fret too much Nats fans, because just as the tide changed here in D.C. it can easily change again in Houston. If it goes to 7, I like the Nats chances. Keep in mind that no home team has won a game at home in this series, so, if you need something to boost your spirits, hang onto that!

That's not what we are saying. What we are saying is that, while the Redskins may still be the top dog, the popularity is waning at an alarming rate. Hardly anyone gives a shit anymore and that is dangerous. Ticket sales and merchandise sales are at an all time low.

I don't know if you are from this area or not, or how old you are. But at one point in the 70s and early 80s, the Orioles where THE team. They had a rabid following of fans that traveled well. You would see Orioles fans at every away venue. Then Angelos bought the team and, much like Snyder, meddled to the point that, after years of pathetic play, the fans became apathetic. And this was before the Nats were in DC. The franchise has still not recovered. This situation is eerily familiar to what Snyder has done to the Redskins.

I already agreed with you on that. I said the fan base has dwindled but it still has a much bigger fan base than any other team in town. As far as where I'm from.

I was born at Ft. Belvoir. I've lived in Springfield, Alexandria, Oxon Hill, Ft. Meade, and Ft. Washington. I graduated from West Potomac right off the GW parkway. I've worked in Arlington. I took Route 1 to work every day for years. D.C. has been gentrified. 14th street is proof to that.

Now that we've got all that DC chest thumping out of the way. I stand by my statement that the Skins will always be number one in this town

The Nats couldn't even sell out a NLDS game last week. I understand the apathy. I get it. I understand the Caps and Nats are feel good stories right now. I love them too. I've been watching the Caps since HTS (Home Team Sports).

However the Skins regual season games still draw way more eyeballs that the other teams in town. Now you say well there are only 16 of them. Nats playoff games are drawing a 14 and the World Series games have drawn in the 20s TV wise.

Skins and Seahawks in 12 drew a 50. Skins V Packers drew in the 40s. Like I said, Rendon called out Nats fans midseason, and there a winning team. Yes, its probably closer than it's ever been, and everyone is pissed at Dan and apathetic towards the team, but that does not make DC a baseball town and I really dont see that ever happening.
