It has already been done before with replacement players, a few folks did come to those games, but it (fielding replacements) really was a failure league wide. Players gave up their pay checks then and rather than become a non person, they would, I suggest do it again.

It hasn't been tried long term. College football players haven't had their chance to make millions. College football gets incredible ratings. The collegiate players will play.[/QUOTE]

There's a reason why there's a collective bargaining agreement. If was as easy as you seem to think it is, then the "owners" had multiple times to break the union and render the players independent contractors under no agreement. That hasn't happened....I wonder why?

BTW: what sample size do you need? The fact that they were willing to do it at all, regardless of length of time should tell you more than you'll need to know.

I guess IM not a patriot, because this doesnt really upset me.

I do find it fascinating though that people are a fuck ton more bent out of shape over players refusing to salute the flag/anthem in protest, than they are over a tax code thats broken, a health insurance system designed to pork us all, and a systematic agenda by the government over the last 240 years to KEEP this country divided no matter which political party is in power.
This. Another diversion that will accomplish nothing in the end while substantial issues go unaddressed because they get no focus. I could give a rats ass if someone kneels or not. But I do agree that act of protest while on th job is questionable at best.

It hasn't been tried because there would be a long term but recoverable effect on revenues and it would absolutely piss off the advertisers. Any lock out of past has been independent of the fans. IF the NFL takes a hit from a fan driven protest, they will look to fix the problem.

This is also not the 80s. The popularity of the NFL today can't be compared to the NFL of the past. The NFL knows it has a ratings problem. They tried to blame it on the elections. Now they are trying to blame it on saturation. The truth is the fans are losing interest and realize they do not need football. The NFL needs to give us a reason to keep tuning in.

If a Redskins player kneels and is not punished, it will be the last NFL game I watch this year. I have better things to do than waste my time watching these idiot disrespect my Flag, Veterans and Country. I am a Navy vet and I have a brother-in-law that is a Police officer. The Flag means more to me that some stupid game.

I know how hard it is for you to make the connection, but the NFL has ONE and ONLY ONE reason for its loyal legions to keep tuning in.......THE PLAYERS......These guys are the very best in the world when doing what they do. The players are the game, NOT the OWNERS, NOT the COACHES, and certainly NOT the SPONSORS. Unless you tune in for the commercials, not one of these block, tackle, throw, catch, or run on the field.

Maybe that's REALLY not the issue that you're having. It is possible that I'm missing your point with respects to a top down NFL. So do me a favor.....put it where the goats can get it from your perspective. I PROMISE to keep an very open mind as I read your response. Thanks.

Just a quick FYI....there's a history of protests on the job. They were called walkouts.

Little bit different. Walkouts were almost exclusively related to on the job issues or disagreements.

I can see where you make a distinction. It's all good!

I really was hoping that this thread wouldn't turn the way that it did. I honestly wanted to talk about our guys and their reactions to current events then the resultant reaction of the posters here. So let me ask you this specific question. Do you expect that Cousins, the most visible leader of this team, will or will not participate in any type of planned response?

Content? wasn't true at all......Might I remind you that there is no game without players!

There are guys not on teams now that would love to play. There will always be players.

Agreed...there WILL always be players, just not as many as you'd like to believe who are willing to trade dollars, even in the millions, for their humanity. Those days are long gone and just ain't coming back.

BTW: we've all talked about this in that other thread about the upcoming CBA. When I warned that this day would come and others thought so little of people that they swore that money would be the ONLY factor. Well, here we are!

I have no idea. I guess it would depend upon the response. It wouldn't surprise me if he stood in support of his teammates (much like the entire Ravens team and coaches did before this morning's game). But I wouldn't see him doing anything that could be construed as disrespecting the flag, the country, the NFL or the franchise.

We will have to agree to disagree.

See, that's where I am on this about him and our guys. On the one hand there's a need to be in solidarity with their team and what appears to be a league wide thing. On the other hand, because some have wrongly used the word "disrespect" with what they are doing anything outside of what has been to date perceived as usual in this regard might also be seen as disrespectful.

It is going to be a very interesting NFL weekend, to say the least. We've already had two posters here indicating that doing anything outside of that "usual" thing and the NFL has lost them. We will see!! Thanks man.
