Please...spare me the analogies with fireman, military, etc. Everyone knows those are real life jobs, but unless you are some type of specialist such as a Green Beret, etc. they do not compare to the skillsets of NFL players.

Maybe it's not the place for a 2nd yr player to say, I get that part.

But, comparatively (with other pro sport athletes) speaking, he's right. The top shelf players and positions hold up okay vs other sports, but when you look at the average salary across the board...yes...NFL players should make more than NHL, NBA, or MLB players.

That's fucking idiotic here is why. The NFL plays only 16 games. The MLB Teams play 162, NBA and NHL play 82. They also play much longer playoffs. That is much more revenue generation. Not to mention there are only 12 guys on basketball team 26 on a baseball team and 53 on a football team.

Its simple math youre as dumb as Odell.

Interesting read, but it appears that the article is a knee jerk reaction to the CBA that was barely 2 years old. He complains about the salary cap, predicting it would stay stagnant (hence hurting players) and hear we are 2 years later with the salary cap having gone up over $20 million.

He also claims that because of the cheapening of rookie wages that more rookies are being used, thus pricing out veterans. Since 2010, the number of rookies used in the NFL has been in a steady decline, from 409 in 2010 to 334 in 2014. In fact, only the 400 rookies in 2011 was higher than the average # from 2001-2010 (368.1) and only 2008 was lower than the average of 2012-2014 (335.7).

As for veterans no longer getting jobs, the average number of veterans with 2 or more years of experience playing in the NFL has been higher per year until they reach 9 years of experience.

2 - 443.3/290.5
3 - 278.5/238.9
4 - 225.5/202.2
5 - 174.0/171.3
6 - 146.8/139.7
7 - 120.8/117.4
8 - 97.0 / 95.4
9 - 74.0 / 76.4
10 - 49.5/55.5
10+ - 91.3/114.4

What's really happened is that long lived careers that have lasted 10 or more years are no longer being kept around as often in reserve roles. Despite having only 132 players with 10 years or more experience (tied for the fewest since 2001) those players combined to play the most games (455) and start the most games (162, which obviously does not include kicker/punters) in the last 15 years.

He is not right & is full of shit. You want more money, play more games.

The real reason why NFL players make less on average than MLB or NBA players, is the roster sizes of teams. NFL rosters are twice as large as MLB rosters & four times the size of NBA rosters.

The reality is that NFL players get a larger share of the pie than the other two leagues.

Beckham should figure out how he gets paid per game and compare that to other sports. 8 home games, 8 away games and playoff's if your lucky that could add a maximum of 4 more games. The other sports playoff games alone outnumber the amount of games that an NFL player has to play in an entire year.

On a per game basis NFL players are killing it.

Why do we pay attention to things like this? Yeah we all agree they make plenty, but everyone I've ever meet always thought they should be paid more, they are often times full of crap also.

Beckham's cap hit for this season looks like $2.4 mil rounded up, roughly $147.8k per game.

That's not bad money actually imo, but the rank n file guys...they have a legitimate gripe imo...league min. needs to be about $800k

Are you listening to yourself? How many of us "rank and file" guys would love to make $800k a year to play a game? Give me a fucking break.

Lack of perspective and jealousy causes people's panties to bunch up over comments like this.

If he doesnt like the pay dont sign the contract

For every ODB there are many more of these
Greg Robinson, St. Louis Rams (No. 2)
The tackle out of Auburn has yet to crack the starting lineup and has played 10 offensive snaps overall. The Rams' offensive line did not perform well last week against the Eagles and really has not been a strength all season long. But at this point, there don't appear to be any plans to get Robinson on the field.

To compare to mlb Trout his rookie year made 510,000 ODB will get his payday

I thought the Robinson pick has bust written all over it, was a wasted pick, and berated the Rams for it. I was shooed off this board by Rams users calling me a hater and a Seahawk homer. I was fearing they would take Watkins/Dix. Donald has turned out to be a monster but their secondary still sucks lol.

It's pretty sad.... Dude shut your mouth you get paid millions as do a lot of your fellow teammates and regular players throughout the league.

Gotta disagree. They play 16 games. the other pro athletes play way more.

He started 12 games last year split between LG and LT and is slated to be our starting LT when the season begins. Can't really call that a bust or a wasted pick.

I hope so... even pro football focus ranked you guys 31st in offensive line and didn't have any praises to sing about Robinson. #2 overall you expect IMMEDIATE impact. That's great Robinson started there, but he was one of the worst LT/LG in the league.

Now that the Rams have committed to him in 2015 we'll see if he turns it around. I'm all for eating crow if he does, just re-stating my opinion at the time. We shall see good sir. :suds:

Regardless, looking forward to hopefully re-establishing the early 00s rivalry with you Rams fans. Those convos on the ESPN forums were always fun.

I've been called worse...but, you're real smart to tell me how many games these other sports play...big fucking deal...show me the money...how much revenue do these other entities generate and compare that to the NFL... The NFL brings in est. $9 bil per. and 1696 roster spots.
