Made a nice catch and now we are supposed to care about his personal opinion?

"I think that we should make more money, personally," Beckham told The Huffington Post. The crux of the second-year wideout's argument is that NFL players should earn more than basketball or baseball players because football, their chosen profession, is more physical.

Nobody is forcing anybody to play in the NFL. If you don't like the pay or the danger of the sport, don't play it. Yeah, short careers, more injuries. Hey Odell, tell that to an Army or Marine infantry soldier. Idiot makes millions to play a "GAME" and says he should get paid more. Overpaid brat.

I think this kid needs to learn a lesson from Eddie Lacy. Rookie of the year 2013-14 yet gives back to the community. Works hard and plays hard. Loves to have fun and plays with kids. Doesn't complain about his income. Oh and takes more pounding then he does.

The dude needs to shut up, take his millions, and play the game.

1. Any number of other people would be more than willing to replace him for less.
2. Insert military, police, firefighter argument here,
3. He can invest his money wisely and be set for life or he could take the lack of education and get a less physical job making $40k.

Please...spare me the analogies with fireman, military, etc. Everyone knows those are real life jobs, but unless you are some type of specialist such as a Green Beret, etc. they do not compare to the skillsets of NFL players.

Maybe it's not the place for a 2nd yr player to say, I get that part.

But, comparatively (with other pro sport athletes) speaking, he's right. The top shelf players and positions hold up okay vs other sports, but when you look at the average salary across the board...yes...NFL players should make more than NHL, NBA, or MLB players.

I know everyone is going to pitch a fit over this statement but having been in the military I can assure you that 80% of the rank and file couldn't count to a million let alone earn it. The other 20% get the job done. Can you say cannon fodder.

well...you're right about 2nd year guy should know his place and you're wrong about him being right about average salaries. It's in the math as to why the average salary is less

Sorry ATL96Steeler, I am not going to feel bad for a guy that will still make a ton of money in life. He wants to be paid like a NBA or MLB guy and take less hits? He could have aimed for the MLB or NBA. It kind of rings a little hollow to bust your butt getting into a profession and then complaining about facets of the job, like pay. You know full well what the pay would be and still went into the profession.

I understand 53 players vs 25 for MLB, etc.

Average salary is not really where the fallout is imo...it's the bottom end and guys that out perform their rookie contracts...the league minimum should be much higher imo. I think it's about $425k or so now. I think it should be about $800k...even it meant the QB salary had to come down a notch.

MMA is far less lucrative (especially for up and comers) and a more physical sport but I guess that doesn't fit his narrative.

If you don't like your salary, get a new job. I don't care what your current job is. NFL player or cashier at McDonalds. Get the skills and training you need and get a new job.

Hard to compare with roster size (53 nfl 25 mlb 23 nhl and 15 nba) and games played (16 nfl 162 mlb 82 nba+nhl) so much different:suds:

It's not about feeling sorry or feeling bad for anyone. Just like the policeman that puts his life on the line for $40k a yr...they knew that going in also...that doesn't change the fact that they are underpaid.

You're right, but who said he didn't like it? He said the obvious...and for all we know he could've been smiling the whole time.

Still think it's in the math.
Look at a 10 game homestand that averages 25,000 people. Multiple parking and concessions times 10 games and then do that eight more times compared to 8 events per football season. It's all about percentages of the whole pie

I think that's a good point but the NFL is the highest grossing sport in the world.

I'm not disputing anything you're saying...but it's not really about the number of games, etc....it's about how much revenue the entity is bringing in period, gate, TV rights, licensing, etc....and if the NFL dishes out the same percentage of the gross revenue as MLB, NHL, etc...then your argue flies. The battle then shifts to how it's distributed.

I have no problem with the starting QB making the most money as he's the most important player on the team, but I really think the bottom feeders should make a lot more than currently.

Beckham's counterpart in the MLB will make maybe 10 mil a year? And Beckham may top out at around 7 mil a year?

That is $62,000 a game in baseball and $437,500 a game in football. And I bet top-end football players have better opportunities to get sponsorships because of the popularity of the league.

But with all that being said, when millionaires bitch about money, it will always fall on deaf ears

Beckham's cap hit for this season looks like $2.4 mil rounded up, roughly $147.8k per game.

That's not bad money actually imo, but the rank n file guys...they have a legitimate gripe imo...league min. needs to be about $800k
