Thinking of either the Xoom or Thrive. Just wondering if anyone else has a tablet and what they think about it. I'm leaning towards the Thrive because of its price and also the full size SD slot. I know its heavier but I can't find other any negative things about it.

thanks!

Can't really help with those models. I purchased the new iPad a few months ago...it has been awesome but does just sit from time to time since I do still use a laptop and smartphone. I do like the idea of an SD slot though, would be nice to have one of those.

I feel like firing up the playbook to post from, just to get all the bases covers.

How is the playbook? I was very intrigued by it....but I already owned the iPad

I like it so far. basically a toy though for me - games and a browser
I am having trouble getting it to stay bridged to my phone, which is frustrating.
that will open up a lot more use when I get that figured out.

It does play flash (and all manner of video) though, which is a big boost over the ipad.
my wife has an ipad2, and she forwards me links to watch on my machine.

Flash is a big hit but there are usually ways around it if you know what you are doing.

yeah, she's tried a few of them (including accessing a desktop to show on the ipad), but none of the work-arounds are that great.
a fuck of a lot more content for the ipad though!

I feel like firing up the playbook to post from, just to get all the bases covers.

The Playbook was really primed to be a player (no pun intended) in the business market because Blackberry is so well positioned there.
Never really took off though, which is a shame because it is a nicely designed box, but the general public didn't "get" that it wasn't Android or Apple O/S.
If my situation were a little different, the playboook probably would have been my choice, but purely form a "seemless integration with corporate world" angle.
In this case, with the Tablet PC market, pure consumerism is driving the corporate device adoption more than any other device in the business world, ever. Ever.
(may I point out that this is a market that DID NOT EVEN EXIST, and was purely CREATED by Steve Jobs' (RIP) evil genius. He told us we needed these, he TOLD us our phone wasn't big enough and we needed thos bigger version... and we all said "ok!!" Madddd props to that turtleneck wearing Buddhist evil genius (RIP) for this one. Gotta respect how he was able to do that.)

The ThinkPad Tablet is primed to battle and put a large dent in the iPad share in the corporate world though (corporate, not consumer, iPad is too much of a monolith in the nconsumer space) in any large business where security and management is key though. (with citrix, computrace, active directory, remote management, remote/zero touch deployment, etc., that NO other tablet PC can remotely come near to acheiving. And the digitizer pen sweetens that deal tremendously)
Even though I have a tablet now that I won, I may buy the ThinkPad version anyway. For NO other reason than "I want it." :-)

But in the corporate spaces, small businesses, etc., where consumerism still drives, the iPad will still be king for now, as it is the market leader by a large, large margin. (corporate IT sure does hate having to individually touch eah and every one to set it up in a corporate network... enter the ThinkPad.)

If Jobs (RIP) would have open up the iPad to flash, and corporate security management features, instead of focusing on pure, unadulteradted consumerism and content consumption.... Apple would have taken over completely. Leaving those holes opened the door for Andriod + Blackberry.

/end soapbox

between the two on the table..
I'd go with the Thrive

these are all pretty much big phones more than any of them are actual computers, so one would think Motorola would have an edge, but I like the Toshiba better for looks, features, and build.
the Full sized USB is awesome. Really wish mine had that (not even a mini-USB, dammit). Have a nice case that sits it upright, and would LOVE to be able to use a wireless keyboard. But nope. It's the hardwired dock/keyboard or nothing. :-(
As far as HDMI.... I have one, but can't think of any reason I would need it? Maybe traveling, if the kids want to see a downloaded movie or netflix streaming on the Hotel TV or something I suppose. Other than that, can't think of a single reason why I would need/use it at home.

BTW... all these reveiwers that pan tablets as "too big, too thick, too heavy, blah, blah, blah..

Seriously?
Get over it.
They are all small, they are all thin. 2 mm or half an ounce means nothing.
The K1 I have and use was universally panned for being a fatty. So I was expecting it to feel so much bigger/heavier (stupid me, listened to the media, my own fault).
When I started using it, I felt stupid.
Really, WTF is so big any heavy about this??? lol
I guess if I were a 9 year old asian girl, It MAY feel heavy. :tape2:

Tell us how you really feel Biz, it wasn't clear from your post

Personally, I'm not sold on the tablet stuff to begin with. As you pointed out, the Apple marketing machine created a market that didn't exist, but after having played with a bunch of tablets, I still can't get on board. I just don't see any lasting use for them.

And I don't want to have to carry another device in my bag when I'm traveling.
