With 8:00 remaining in the 3rd period of the game with the Houston Texans, Vince Wilfork landed hard on Jacoby Brissett. Brissett was seen on the sideline looking at his thumb and shaking his hand. From that point forward Brissett was 3 for 8 passing and several of his throws appeared to be badly thrown, especially the near interception in the end zone. Brissett did not complain or even seek medical attention until after the game was over.

Here's where the garbage starts to overwhelm the arena. Reports are varied as media outlets are all trying to be the lead report.

Ian Rappaport lead off with the original report saying that the thumb had a partially torn ligament and that surgery was not necessary. CBS and other outlets have followed with reports that Brissett may have surgery as early as tomorrow.

As soon as I can get something that appears truthful and accurate I will post.

There is concern in Foxboro. The Patriots are in search of a QB.

I remember that Wilfork play. Big tub of goo just belly flopped on him after he was down.

Patriots fans who watched last night’s game likely caught cameras panning to Jacoby Brissett being tended to on the sideline last night by trainers with what announcers Jim Nance and Phil Simms speculated might have been a thumbnail issue for the rookie.

Unfortunately, news came out on Friday that the prognosis is a little more serious than that.

According to WEEI’s Mike Petraglia, Brissett suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb that likely will reportedly require surgery to stabilize it, which obviously now further complicates what was already a pretty murky quarterback situation. Petraglia told Dale & Holley that details from there in terms of the timetable on Brissett’s return weren’t known at this time.

That definitely explains some of the throws that were well off the mark by the rookie, who had actually been relatively accurate during what little we saw of him during the preseason. After the apparent injury, Brissett wasn’t quite up to the level of what we’ve normally had become accustomed to seeing.

The only good news in this scenario is that Jimmy Garoppolo now has some extra time with the long layoff to continue getting treatment for the sprained AC joint he suffered to his throwing shoulder during the win over Miami, which will hopefully have him ready for their battle against the Bills one week from Sunday. The only question from there will be if New England opts to have Julian Edelman, once again, be the back-up, or if they’ll bring in a veteran to play behind Garoppolo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ian Rapoport reports that it’s not serious, and that for now Brissett will continue to be monitored before a decision is made.

Fortunately it’s only a temporary situation with Tom Brady chomping at the bit to get back in the line-up. Belichick likely never imagined he’d lose both his second and third string quarterbacks to an injury, and today’s news certainly increases the level of difficulty for a coach who has already done an incredible job to this point.

Thankfully, Belichick likes a challenge. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how he handles this latest bit of adversity.

Back up QB's Edelman and AJ Derby. Derby played QB at Arkansas.

As of 11:00 PM last night there was still no "Official" report from the Patriots. Of course this pisses the media because they can only speculate and not dedicate 62 hours of broadcast to anything. BB must have told JB to go into hiding and not talk to anyone because one reporter said that he was answering texts or Snapchats. In real verse this means that their stoolies have been kept out of the loop and those "Reliable sources" are no longer reliable.

Let's take a quick look at what the injury may possibly be.

Sprained Thumb - When the thumb is hyper-extended back toward the wrist and the tendons and ligaments are stretched beyond the normal range of motion. Generally, the ligaments always have minor tears and the injury causes severe pain. Treatment is rest and light medication. Normal return to activity is 3-7 days.

Torn Ligament - When the ligament is extremely hyper-extended, the threads of the ligament pull away from the ligament sleeve and the sleeve is pulled away from bone to which it is attached. Treatment is immobilization and medication for excruciating pain. Time to return to normal activity 3 weeks - 2 months.

Severed ligament - The ligament is torn away from the bone, and all of the fibers snap apart and leave the ligament in nearly two pieces. The ligament sections leave the sleeve. Treatment is surgery and reconnection of the fibers and reattaching the ligament to the bone using pins or staples. Time to return to normal activity is 4-8 months.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett dealing with sprained thumb after win

Another day, another drama under center for the New England Patriots.

One week after losing Tom Brady's backup, Jimmy Garoppolo, to a banged-up shoulder, the team is dealing with an injury to rookie passer Jacoby Brissett.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that the first-time starter suffered a sprained right thumb in Thursday night's romp over the Houston Texans, per a source.

The team is weighing its options on how to proceed with Brissett, but the injury is "not deemed to be a serious one," per Rapoport, who noted that the Patriots are expected to add another veteran quarterback.

Brissett was shown on the sideline in obvious discomfort during the third quarter of the Texans tilt, but he played from wire-to-wire.

New England has another nine days before playing the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. Garoppolo could potentially be healthy by then if Brissett can't go. Patriots receiver Julian Edelman also knows the position -- and could have been used in an emergency on Thursday night -- but he's far too valuable to start under center.

Veteran free-agent Matt Flynn could serve as a possible signing, along with fellow street arm Ryan Lindley. The Patriots only need help for one week, with Brady -- coming off his four-game suspension -- set to return to action in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick and play-caller Josh McDaniels deserve all the credit in the world for devastating a solid Texans team 27-0 on Thursday with the untested Brissett at the helm.

It was a total team effort, but Brissett was used wisely inside a game plan that asked him to throw just 19 passes while using his feet to run for 48 yards off eight carries, including a juicy 27-yard touchdown gallop.

For all the critics who want to temper Belichick's talents by calling this primarily a Brady-powered operation, the first three weeks of the new season have only magnified the coach's almost supernatural ability to prepare his team -- and especially his quarterbacks.

We wouldn't be surprised, by now, if Belichick signed Scarlett Johansson -- sight unseen -- and turned her into a 200-yard passer by Week 4. Anything feels possible for this year's Patriots.

I don't remember where I heard this but players were asked about the injury and they acted like he wasn't injured or that they even knew he was injured. Granted I am sure that was under BBs orders.

If he was not able to go, they would have brought in a QB. BB would have too. You cannot have your #1 WR playing QB in a game where they need to run the ball and short passes. Any QB can throw it short and quick...
