i dont expect 2nd rounders to have huge impacts year one and year one only

The funny thing is the Smith had such an impact last year it forced Murphy to change positions and add weight. So yes I do expect 2nd round picks to make an impact early.

That is an interesting take since both of them are 2nd rd picks. We really can't use the Redskins past draft history in this case since their track record w/ 2nd rd picks is flat out awful. There are many years where the Redskins did not have a 2nd rd pick. Beyond that the selections were not good except for a handful of cases (Smoot, Jansen, etc) & those were all quite a while ago.

Any comparison to Redskins selections prior to the SM era is a waste of time, but Skinsdad's overall take on 2nd rd picks is valid (they may or may not contribute in their initial year).

It is funny that you gave Smith credit for causing Murphy to move when Gallette is the starter. Then too it follows your party line for the past 6 months. No matter, if it works then it was worth it.

Understood & Deanpet's reply kind of undermines that since Murphy was also a 2nd rd pick and really has been so-so for the most part. I guess I really took issue with the way the defense was being presented in a very negative light. That remains to be seen & I think that most fans don't really understand how to build a team or a defense. We will see how it pans out this season.

SoCal, it wasn't my intention to be negative on our defense. But we do have significant issues up front so I can't see how one believes we will go from one of the worst defenses in the league (or even division) to one of the best. To me, it's more reasonable to expect a modest jump from the cellar to the middle of the back.
Oh, and we haven't even addressed if Barry is an NFL caliber DC.

I think Smith had a pretty good year last year, especially for a rookie. However I think Murphy was moved to DE because he struggled covering receivers in the pass game.

Most of you know I have no confidence in our front 7. Still think we will be bending over most weeks giving it up on the run. Why pass when you can run.

Bingo!!!!! Remember the Pack used quick counts and Barry never adjusted nor was he even prepared for it(to many men on the field). I have some serious doubts about Barry but will give him a break b/c he definitely lacks talent on the front line but I see an ominous sign in his def scheme.

This was not primarily based on your replies. I also made no claims that the defense will be stellar. I simply stated that it will not be as bad as some maintain. I agree that there are D-line issues, but also believe that they are being addressed somewhat & think overall it will take a few seasons to get the D line totally in order. However - their back 7 should be improved & this should make the defense decent if not outstanding. I think that basically we are in agreement.

So you now extend this to the entire front 7 and not just the D-line? Interesting. Just ignore the fact that Galette is returning, Smith has another year under his belt, they drafted a D lineman who could contribute & the secondary should be improved which helps the line play.

You act as if the team isn't also aware of this & is doing nothing to address this. I disagree but also understand that you can't fix everything in one offseason. They weren't going to reach for unwarranted draft picks on defense just to satisfy some unhappy fans, but this doesn't mean that we should just assume that the defense will be as bad or worse than last season. We will see.

Quick counts? They went on first sound or did you mean they ran a no huddle offense? Big difference.

Well SoCalWizFan we cannot stop the run. Last yr we ranked 26th against the run and 2014 we were 21 ranked vs the run. This is obvious quite clear. Believe me I don't like it either!!!!! If we are going to take it to the next level we must run the ball and def the run. Right now the later concerns me immensely. Like you said WE WILL SEE.

Sorry I meant hard counts and hurry up off.

Let me try to remember some quotes after the game. They may not be word for word.

"They made adjustments and we did not. Rogers did not let us substitute etc" Jason Hatcher
"Rogers got them to the line quickly" Will Compton

Now Sportster72 the Pack was playing some horrible off coming into this game. If you was a def cord you should know that the Rogers often used hard counts and hurry up off to jump start their off. Now I know JB doesn't have a lot of playoff experience but he should have been better prepare for that. That's my point. However one thing for sure, experience should never be underestimated in January in the NFL.

We have already been down this road 409 and you declared yourself the winner of the debate no matter what anyone else said. No need to re-visit. I was just clarifying. :pound:Who would argue with a self-appointed argument winner. :noidea:
