He's had a great career thus far... But to be HOF material in the short amount of time that he has played, he would have had to win more than just one Stanley Cup, as well as more scoring titles than he has.

this would be bad for the NHL and good for Stamkos as he would be the new face. seriously would we ahve to look at OV for his career as the face of the NHL......

I for sake of the NHL hope to god he plays again that would be a huge hit to the league.

Mario would never recover and would have to somehow make Cooke dissapear off his roster with noone noticing

For me yes. What he has done in the time he has played has been great and HOF worthy IMO.

I can see him not getting in though. The HOF (others too) tend to reward longevity and often longevity equal a lot of average seasons with a few great ones mixed in.

(also I may be the only one but if he is still feeling symptoms this long afterwards and the way concussions seem to compound each other; if I was him I may shut myself down for the season)

If the league ended today, I'd put both OV and Crosby in. Amazing numbers in the time they've played and they're also the faces of the league for a pretty decent span. It's not like these guys only played two good years. Every year is good for them. They're also some of the youngest captains in the history of the league. Two franchises we're completely transformed with them leading it. Seriously, I'll take that over the guy who averages 25 goals over 15 seasons, yet has never been known as the best of his era.

Just my opinion.

Yes. Definitely.

The only thing missing from his resume is a Conn Smythe, and even without one, he's still a playoff beast. He's been a lock ever since the pass from Iginla.

I don't agree. They'd just invest their marketing in another star. He and OV have carried the banner for several years now. But you have Stamkos, Skinner and Perry's stars are rising, the Sedins Bros., Toews/Kane in Chicago, etc.

I think OV and Crosby were important in generating interest at a time when the sport was struggling and they were both huge in that way. But it's a different time now, and other players can step into the void left by either guy. Playoff ratings were solid this year without either much in the mix and Crosby gone for basically the entire calendar year. Hopefully, he gets healthy and we get to see them continue to clash for years to come. But I don't think any one guy would be a hit to the league at all, much less a huge one.
