In the example with the pitcher/bunt I think is a different kind of discussion because that would be a play with the sole intent to cause injury. In a double play situation the intent is to disrupt a double play sometimes that results in an injury.
To me it is the same play. Neither is a baseball play. When you go after a player by tackling him, you know the probability of injury is sky high. The intent is inherited by the action. To me it is like punching someone in the face then saying the intent wasn't to hurt them. Going after a guys legs was the intent and that action inherits risk so to me one can't be w/o the other.
