In the example with the pitcher/bunt I think is a different kind of discussion because that would be a play with the sole intent to cause injury. In a double play situation the intent is to disrupt a double play sometimes that results in an injury.

To me it is the same play. Neither is a baseball play. When you go after a player by tackling him, you know the probability of injury is sky high. The intent is inherited by the action. To me it is like punching someone in the face then saying the intent wasn't to hurt them. Going after a guys legs was the intent and that action inherits risk so to me one can't be w/o the other.

Good talk and hopefully we will be talking about the new manager next week.

Yeah, that is a point where we differ. I view the double play "break up" as possible to achieve without injuring the opposing player meaning it isn't dependent on the injury taking place to be successful whereas taking the pitcher out in an attempt cause injury is only achieved by injury. And around and around we go.... LOL

All in all I agree its a dick move by Utley but I don't blame him for doing it.

Hopefully a new manager gets hired soon.

This is why you trade Kuma at this years deadline:

The Chicago Cubs’ July 2, 2013 trade of right-hander Scott Feldman to the Orioles for Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop appeared to continue their path toward another year without a competitive team.

Mid-season trades can pay off unless you sit on your hands.

maddon has some sort of voodoo magic

He does and that is why I kind of like his right-hand man Dave Martinez as a manager. Maybe some of that magic would come west.

Nothing wrong with it. It was passion coming through and I loved it. Pitchers are punks and if they don't want the flip don't give up the homer. Pitcher do the same thing after a big hit all the time in their own way.

My line of thinking is that it is an unwritten rule so why is the pitcher bitching to the media. Just plunk him next time, it seems ok for pitchers to show emotion but not hitters.

I'm fine with it since it was in the game that eliminated Texas.

That is one solution, but still redic to me. Pitchers get hitters out about 70% of the time and how emotion so why can't a hitter when they finally succeed? Rickey Henderson did it all the time. Reggie did it in the playoffs all the time. If it was the first inning, then maybe gripe. It was an emotion play so good for him. I hate emotional-less players and/or managers. The game should be emotional.

Loved it. Exciting playoff moment for a franchise that has not had any in 20 years. Agree that baseball needs more emotion so I personally love stuff like this.

So they got Saunders for renting out Happ for a year. Not bad.

So much for expecting a cheaper deal for Kuma. Not that I was but can't imagine a cheaper deal them that
