Odd that as much as Bruce loves to tell us how smart he is, there has been no mention of this deal on the teams official web page.

Kinda makes me think Bruce is still trying to gauge reaction to this move before he opens his mouth to put foot in. That or he is still trying to figure out a way to get more than a Comp pick in 2019 for Cousins. Maybe both.

You're probably right, but I have a feeling that there another part of all of this to come in the next week or so. It's likely the Kirk Cousins part of it, in which he hopes to assuage hurt feeling with something in return for Kirk. I'm pretty sure that he's already gotten a very good sample of reactions from this move and now he's likely determined that he'll need something more in order to sell it to a gulli, ah, er, I mean, supporting public

Shark, I read something about this somewhere today, I think on ESPN, but I'm not sure of that. Anyway, it said that since we're not at the opening of the league year, that the teams involved can't comment on this and gotta wait until it's official before making any comment. I have no idea if that's accurate, but that's what I read, for what it's worth. So, while Bruce may be a total dumbass, I'm not sure they're allowed to comment on it as of yet.

Well, best of luck to yinz, since, as the Godfather put it, your interests don't conflict with mine. Of course, that guy got whacked later, but you get the point.

Somebody talked to somebody else or this story doesn't see the light of day until the opening of the league year. However, we who have seen the underhanded publicity BS that Bruce Allen does, would not be surprised to learn that the leak began with him whispering in a media type's ear.

My problem with the whole thing at this point is that the media and a very large portion of the fan base are making this out to be some great move by Bruce and Dan.

Sure if it turns out that could not strike up a eal with Cousins, I guess Smith wasn't the worst possible option. Even trading for him wasn't a cardinal sin. Hell even throwing in an up and coming young player MIGHT be forgivable.

But in a real world situation, you don't commend the arsonist for being able to save half the house, when he set the fire and poured gasoline on the sofa to begin with. And this is basically what Dan and Bruce did, they lit the match then realized.. holy shit the house is about to burn down with us inside.

Living in the area and consuming a lot of coverage since it happened .... at least yesterday I would say the media sees it the same way I do, meaning the FO caused this and this was the best way out of the mess they created. There are a few media types who think Smith is better. I don't agree.

A lot of people here are upset about Fuller. Local kid who was playing well on a defense that needs help. That is not going over well.

One thing I have heard a lot is many (including me) are glad this "will he/won't he) saga is over.

I think most people in this area expect Snyder to screw things up. He always has so why would that change now.

Who in the fan base thinks this is a good move? This has got to be an under 20% approval rating of a move.

If you are a fan and you do approve of this trade you are a blithering idiot.

As far as the media is concerned I have 3 takes on it.

1) I have barely seen any positives articles about the skins regarding this trade so not sure where you are getting that from.

2) The local media hates the move. Its obvious by their initial reaction. Some are starting to come around to it because they can have a 90% apathetic fan base. Literally, their livelihood depends on Redskins interest so...

3) Now stick with me on this one as it is a conspiracy. The left winged media absolutely hates the redskins (a political stance in sports and entertainment is a joke btw) When a middle aged alt left white man like Florio try to tell native americans what they should and should not be offended by is laughable. I think the national media knows its a horrible trade but the ones that are writing positive articles and spins want to make sure it goes down by the new year and the skins dont back out because of their hatred for the redskins and their team name and owner.

These are literally the only semi logical answers I can come up with.
