No More Shifts

A big rule change this year will be limits on how teams can employ defensive shifts.

This will help a lot of hitters.

But wil harm teams overall. IMO: if you want to break the shift, teach hitter how to use the whole field....

At my core, I agree that the onus should be on the hitter to improve. Let the game evolve naturally.

But the game has evolved to greatly favor the TTOP, and that is not good for the game. Sometime tweaks, as imperfect as they are, need to be made. And imho, this is one of those bad ideas whose time has come.

I agree with this one completely, it's only been used recently, was the game so much worse before?

Can't say "only"... Google Ted Williams and the shift.

It has certainly become more common-place since advanced cyber-metrics, but it's been used for a while....

Oh yeah, I think it was Lou Boudreau who used that vs Williams. But you get my point, the game is making an adjustment to back to how it was before. It was better before.
