As for the leagues financial position...that was done by David Stern. I don't like Stern, never did, but there is no denying that he made the league incredibly profitable.

All Silver really has to do is not screw up what Stern started and be less of an asshat than Stern was.

As far as you original argument goes, I just don't agree. Back when I was on CBS during the late 2000's, I remember seeing countless articles how the league wasn't as profitable as in was in the 90's in spite of its star power (namely LeBron and Kobe).

The only thing that made it profitable again was LeBron drawing attention (for both better and for worse) with his questionable acts during his 2010 free agency.
