Also, I doubt they use the Coyotes name again once they get their franchise in Phoenix, but since it's associated with the disaster in the desert, until further notice, I'm not changing it lol

I was joking, but this thread and topic will probably last longer than any of us will.

Centuries from now, archaeologists will be reading this and asking "Why the fuck did it go so long?"

When you read some of the stuff that has come out regarding Meruelo during his ownership of the team (treating employees horribly, not paying bills, staying at cheaper hotels on the road to save money), I don't think the league really wants anything more to do with him unless they have no other options.

Maybe he has a future in politics?

His option is for 5 years, with the stipulation that EVERYTHING has to be in place 18 months before the deadline.

So effectively 3.5 years to get his shit together. Very very unlikely.

One stupid thing is bettman specifically saying that he was already vetted as an NHL owner, so wouldn't have to go through that process again

Yeah, pretty sweet deal if you ask me - No guarantee they are going to win the land auction to build the new arena and once again, history has shown that people in Phoenix will get in their cars and drive to watch NFL football, hockey not so much.

I heard someone recently talking about some regulation where he was using the coyotes to be able to run a sports book.

No idea if it is accurate or if I’m phrasing that correctly but it lined up with him never trying to win and just cut costs

Of course they don't have the proper paperwork. Why would they?
