The point of the playoffs in every sport is to have the best 2 in the league/conference meet in conference finals/finals of their sport.

The giants should be playing the braves. It is that simple. You win 107 games and you play a team that won 106 games in round 1? What is the purpose of having the best record?

You're clearly missing my point....
Not at all. It's fairly simple in baseball. Win your division. The only thing I would concede is if lds has a matchup of 2 teams from same division swap out only if have more wins than 3 division winner.

Is it?

In the NFL, the wild card teams are the #5 and #6 seeds throughout the playoffs, regardless of record.

In the NBA, the division winners are the top 3 seeds, regardless of records.

Win your division
I personally think they should take this concept one step further. The Giants should have a 2-1-2 HFA over the doggies.

And this is not a Giants/Dodgers thing. It is a Division winner / WC winner thing. I have been stumping for this format for years.

Not true about the nba.

As for the nfl they do reseed so the top seed is facing the lowest seed in the divisional round.

Yeah that's the least they can do. I just think they should partially reseed.

Only thing winning your division should guarantee you is avoiding the wildcard game and to me the highest seed a wc winner can be is #3 to avoid them getting hfa in the divisional round so playoffs should be Giants vs Braves and Brewers vs Dodgers

I don’t follow the NBA that closely. I believe my statement to be true, but I will cede the point…

in the NFL, they don’t reseed. They reset. Big difference. If a team was 12-4, but a WC team, they would still be the (likely) #5 seed, throughout. If the #6 seed lost in the WC round, the 12-4 WC #5 seed would play the top seed in the second round.

Schedules are not balanced. You can’t put THAT MUCH weight into the records. Records should be (and are) essentially just tie breakers for seeding.

Winning the division is a big deal, and should be treated as such.

Im a big basketball fan. You are wrong. They been made that change. All your division get you is a playoffs spot. Not HCA

88 win braves team should not be playing the team with the 3rd best record in the league lol.

I totally agree. Winning your division is a big deal and that's why the team with a best record in baseball should not be playing the team with the 2nd best record in round 1

It happens so rarely, it should be considered what it is.. An outlier.

The Giants won the Division and won the season series against the doggies. They are not (and should not) be afraid of the doggies.
