Kershaw vs Bumgarner

Let's examine the facts for a moment:

Kerchoke ($31M) - age 27, postseason record 1-5 ERA 5.12, with 6 hrs. allowed. ZERO World Series Championships, MVP &.3 CY’s. 2015 record 1-1, 4.42 ERA, 3 HRs allowed.

Bumgarner ($6.95M) – age 25, postseason record 7-3, 2 CG, ERA 2.13, with 7 hrs. allowed over 88 innings. THREE World Series Championships, 2014 Silver Slugger and 2014 NL Player of the Year.

Madison Bumgarner- age 25 (He turns 26 on 8/1)- Has 68 ML wins and has not yet reached his prime. Already has won games in THREE different WS's (only Christy Mathewson pitched in FOUR diff WS in 1905).

WS 2010- no runs 4 hits allowed in 8 innings vs Rangers
WS 2012- no runs 3 hits allowed in 7 innings vs Tigers
WS 2014 - 2 monster wins vs Royals and then a inning 5- inning 9 shutout performance vs Royals (no save or win- but the most clutch performances in sports history). Tossed 52.2 innings, 1.01 ERA, best WS pitcher since Gibson and no reason to think there cannot be more to come. WS ERA 0.25

To be fair, though, I think peripheral issues have lead to Kershaw's lack of people st-season success. Lack of a bully and lack of a smart manager has caused his failings. He was left in too long in both of the big games which has made him LOOK like a choker...

I agree but not a lot of people would agree. Kershaw has a target on his back since he won the MVP and Cy Young last year, people will downplay his accomplishments until he has a flawless postseason like Bumgarner just had.

Sure.

The uber-greats are judged by more than just numbers. And no matter the excuse, if you don't deliver when the bright lights are on, there will always be detractors. If Kershaw never gets a ring or continues to have 6 great innings in his 7-inning outings, he will ultimately be remembered as "that other pitcher in the Bumgarner era".

Fair? Not at all. But history can be a son of a bitch.

If the Giants can sweep LA this could very well give them boost they need for this season. I feel this team was searching for their identity losing Sandavol and the others. If they can sweep LA this roster will know they can compete in the West and truly defend their crown. It will be tough because they lack power in the lineup but they'll have to scratch and claw for wins.
